So just wondering....

If a software was going open source, would it be possible for me to make it portable? The software i'm talking about is lightworks which goes open source at the end of the month

sure

There is no problem with that.

Make sure you read the license

There are different OSS licenses, so make sure you read and understand.
Also, much like Firefox and PA.c, the source may be open, but there may be restrictions on their branding logos, graphics. etc.
Usually that just means you need to ask permission.

I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.

Well i'm going to contact

Well i'm going to contact them, it would be even better if they had a easier way to contact them besides email or phone, since i know those are probably not even good ways too. But i just thought if it was a opensource license they wouldn't mind once it went opensource. I've been waiting on this program, since jahshaka, another program similar keeps going dead and coming back(right now Jahshaka is currently looking dead), so i thought if this could be made portable it could easily replace Cinefx(the new name for jahshaka since last year). I was going to portablize that one if it hadn't gone dead again...so i guess i'll wait and see what happens to this one...

ohh I had already made plans

ohh I had already made plans to work on lightworks when it's released, I've been in the midst of contacting them about the open source license they were considering etc, still haven't gotten a reply from them yet though.

Will lightwoks happen?

Would love to see it - Been waiting an ages for a decent portable video editor and effects suite.

Definately

If the app is within the realm of possible (technical wise), then definitely. As you've seen, 3 developers here have already been eying it Blum

I suspect the first portable version will probably come out a week or two after its release on November 29th. Don't take my word for it though.

It Has Been Awhile Since its OSS Release . . . .

. . . so has there been any action on making LWKS portable?

.

Are you ABSOLUTELY sure there is no absolute truth?

No it hasn't

They set a release date for the source around December 2011, which they later postponed to October 2012. The source still hasn't seen light of day, though, so the program can in no way be considered open source until actual source has been released.
