Relics Rant

This thread is mostly a rant so please feel free to ignore if you so choose.

What is it lately with people asking for all these ancient versions of Firefox, Thunderbird et al? I'd like Firefox 1 for Windows 95 please! Um...No!

I can understand that some people are on older operating systems or older hardware and may simply not meet the requirements but I get the feeling most people are just doing it because they don't want change. Unfortunately for them change is a way of life and is gaining momentum along with technological advances. Sticking with something because you don't currently have any viable alternatives is one thing, but sticking with it because you're not willing to learn anything new is narrow-minded at best.

I depised XP when I first starting using it, often qualifying it as an operating system that Fisher Price would make, and I also strongly disliked Gimp too but I've learned to like them. Partly through choice but partly because I needed to use something up-to-date to avoid security issues/incompatibility etc. XP is going to die off in a few years and then I'll have to move on then. Oh well. Such is life.

Get with the program people and stop asking for Firefox Minus 2 edition for Windows for Workgroups, or worse Thunderbird Neanderthal Edition for MSDOS. I guess this issue can be extended beyond just computers. We hear a lot about how things have changed for the worse, but have they? Change will happen whether you want it or not so you might as well embrace it and try to work with it the best you can.

I feel a little better now.

example

Thunderbird 2.0.x the subsystem for x.509 PKI works precise, in version 3.x it is apparently kind of building site and still not working properly, unable to use some keys for no obvious reason, on windows and on linux.
I use x.509 keys for this and that, so can use outlook or TB 2.0.0.x, not TB3.x

My first OS was Windows ME and that was bad. I have loved XP from the start and I see it being used for the next 10 years before dieing out. Now people asking for stuff as old as Windows 98 thats sad, and they need to come up in the world. I myself will be converting to Windows 7 next year for the Gaming reason. But if I wasn't interested in Gaming I would stick to XP because it just works. (for now)

Load the App and Play

Agreed. Vista was pretty

Agreed. Vista was pretty terrible when it was first released, but two service packs later and I prefer it to 7 and XP. UAC, on the other hand...

But there’s no sense crying over every mistake,
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

My Experience of Vista: It Sucks Hardcore

There seems to be little incentive to go to Vista. Even Microsoft is about ready to erase it from the history books (being the embarrassing stain on their corporate-trousers that it is). I can quite easily see Vista being fast-tracked to end-of-life. Smile

I'm going to cling to Windows XP as long as my empty wallet will let me. Smile I guess I've just got one answer as to why people don't want change.

Yes

You don't count Otto, you're a "special case"... there are always exceptions to the rules. Wink

I didn't mind Vista terribly,

I didn't mind Vista terribly, but 7 is leaps and bounds better than Vista ever was.

I had a love hate

I had a love hate relationship with vista, I loved how it looked and some of it's (at the time) newer functions but didn't like the bugs in general that it had, sp2 brought some balance and then Windows 7 came out and I switched to that.
