If a program has DRM (e.g. SecurROM), is it still possible to make a portable app with it?
My brother bought me Dead Space as a gift, and after looking it up I realized that it had install limits and SecurROM DRM on it. I'd very much rather not install this DRM stuff on my brand new computer, seeing as how I had problems with it in the past. I'm okay with installing it on my old computer though, if I can make a portable app with it.
Most DRM uses checks with the hardware in the actual PC and phones home to the company server to track install locations. The nastier (and possibly illegal) DRM modifies your local PC hard drive's boot sector to store stuff.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Aah, Adobe applications use the boot-sector-DRM. Don't know if they still do that though..
