Although Firefox 2.0 was released on October 24th, Firefox Portable 2.0 has not yet been released in its final form. We're still finalizing some of the licensing with Mozilla before putting it out for the world to enjoy. You can expect a Firefox Portable 2.0 Pre-Release in the next few days with a slightly modified setup routine and, once that's tested by a few folks, it'll be released to the world.

I just downloaded the Firefox 2 installer and installed it to my Apps\PortableFirefox\firefox folder. Everything seems to be working just fine - extensions are saving to my profile on the drive.

Because the version inside is an unaltered copy of Firefox. Of course, that PC's Add/Remove programs now has an entry for that copy of FF and you don't have the latest FFP launcher.

Will this include FF U3?
U3 releases usually follow in 1 to 3 weeks from the major standard portable releases on which they are based. more here (though obviously no longer accurate time-wise due to the delay mentioned in this thread)

I installed FFP2.0, then copied the files to where there supposed to be. I hope I did n0t do anything wrong.
I want the v2 for my u3 drive, are they working on that, or are they just doing it for a "normal" portable device?

This may be a question for developement. If so sorry.
I have been reading posts about what is needed to make something legally portable for distribution if that is the right term. Something like Firebird as an example.
It seems there is more than most of us realized. John has permission from the developer. He has done the extra work in making it portable. Now there are licensing things to do. I am missing something here. I read the post in developement. But it seems there is more to it than I understand.
Is this process one that you have to redo each time there is a new release. I ask that because I think many of us here have no real idea what you must go through. The post in developement does not I think relay the amount of work. I sort of thought it was like run the app through a conversion of some sorts and them post it after getting the authors permission.
Perhaps if John is busy, another developer of legaly distributaled applications could answer this.
I am not asking when it will be ready. It seems a long process to do this properly. Then as an after thought I read some post about the sheer number of apps you are maintaining.

Quite correct. However, it's a "Firefox" trademark issue. Plus, Firefox may not be modified without Mozilla's permission while still using "Mozilla" and/or "Firefox" in the name.
John, you may like to correct me, but I feel quite certain I have most of it right.

I've been using Firefox Portable 2.0 RC 3 for a while now, with '0' problems. However, I don't see any threads in these forums concerning this release...

I've tested this method many times befor by friends who are using FFP too! Just care for copy the corect files in the right direction!

remember that this is not the way to get the new version of FirefoxPortable.
The way You posted will only create a copy of Your installation (without any compression, without the needed changes to the folders for the default profile and so on).
You can do that, but create OOoPortable is a little bit more than this!

Mozilla decided to make this portable Firefox (and other portable Mozilla apps) project their own?Nevermind. I was a bit frustrated with the delay.I like the idea of portable applications on Windows as they don't need to use the registry, however the current release of the Firefox application won't even remember internet locations typed into the location bar and there appears to be issues with form data.
Will this all be fixed by the time of the next release?
Please read the documentation. These are all disabled to save drive life. You can enable them in Tools - Options.
