Okay, new user here. I've been using Thunderbird for some time now and my needs are to be able to access my email from several different computers. I always seem to be on the wrong one when I want to check the email and have access to all older email.
Anyway, Thunderbird Portable seemed to be the answer and it is when loaded on my desktop's external USB hard drive. This works quite well (albeit a bit slow in loading). Now my question is, can TBP be loaded on a LAN NAS drive? This way my desktop wouldn't need to be left on in order to view the email. I did the install, but when invoked, the splash screen displays momentarily and then nothing. I know this product is stated to be used on USB removable drives, but couldn't it also work on an LAN NAS drive?

Well, that leaves out using it on a LAN NAS doesn't it?
An NAS on a local area network doesn't have a drive letter, just a name.
It would be a good idea to modify this app for use on a LAN based NAS. It could be considered a cheap man's email server.
Anyone with other solutions or ideas?
You can map a drive letter to any network path you want in Windows.
Most apps themselves do NOT support running from a drive without a drive letter within Windows. (So no amount of external tinkering with the launcher would help that situation.)

Yeah, mapping a drive letter to the NAS wouldn't help since the computer that is doing the mapping would have to be on whenever another computer wanted to check the email.
However, while tinkering with TBP (and understanding its operation) it became apparent that all I really had to do was use regular Thunderbird on each computer, but change the server settings to store the email on the NAS. This isn't as elegant as using TBP (I don't really need the portability), but seems to work.
Thanks for getting me to think.
Update: All is working well sharing the email on the NAS with three computers. However, only one computer can have Thunderbird running at any one time. That is not a problem with my setup.
