The files should be cleared

The files should be cleared after you exit from Thunderbird Portable.

this is normal

with probably any software, any mail client etc.
This is how windows file system works, complain to authors of the file system...

I have so far not met any mail client which does in fact secure wipe of its temp files it created. The wipe task is not simple, because if you want do it seriously, you have to take care of swap file too, this means delete *and* wipe the space left after the swap file.

If you ever find a windows software taking care of such things by itself, let me know.

You can use number of wipe software av from net to secure delete files, but if they will take care of swap I dont know.

.

Who would lose his time using software to try to retrieve files from the Windows temporary folder?
And even worse, what they were looking for? NASA's secret files? hehe

I do not use the swap file.

I do not use the swap file. is disabled
Only use programs that do not write temp to disk, but in working memory
TB when download email ...create temp file for email and delete but solving this problem simply disable TB antivirus check.
now only problem is temp when send email.
if there was a command to redirect the temp folder of TB in other position I would have solved. i redirect temp for TB on ramdisk.
unfortunately I can not redirect the Windows Temp folder in the ramdisk because when you reboot this creates problems

you are using windows, right?

so what are you surprised of so much?

You are not using swapfile at all? well then , ok, this will limit windows much, but you can live with it apparently.

But there are much more files written and deleted, registry all the time, all sorts of symbolic links in w7 pointing there and there. Windows software simply does use the windows mechanisms for operation. Temp is not the only place where it will try to write, you can get temp in ramdrive, yes but the rest?

If you want something else, use 'hardened' operating system, also windows exist in such version, XP and w7. But did you ever tried to install new software or updates to such 'hardened' OS? I tried, will not do it again, changing simple small antivirus software to next version took about a week or frustration.

the situation is not

the situation is not exaggerated as you write

for example, to write a text you can use microsoft word, notepad and other programs to run all but write the temp file then delete. EmEditor only closes open files and writes everything in memory without using temp files. just find the right program

firefox portable used with ramdisk does not leave temporary files

are not here to debate about why the programs create temporary files. just wondering if there is a command to change the path of the temp on TB.

thanks
