Installing Lightning to integrate Sunbird as a TB portable Add-on

Hi

Thunderbird Portable is 3.0.6. I downloaded Lightning 1.0 from portableapps.com. When I tried installing as an add-on from TB's Tools menu, I get a an installation fail message advising that it is not compatible.

Can anyone advise what is the compatible Lightning version, and where to download. Actually.. Generically.. What is the URL to check compatibility of any protable app with any portale app add-on?

Many thanks,
ka

3.0.x Discontinued

The Thunderbird 3.0.x has been discontinued and is now unsupported. It should not be used any longer. You should upgrade to Thunderbird Portable 3.1.x. Then you can install the current Lightning release.

Installing Lightning to integrate Sunbird as a TB portable Add-o

OK, better to upgrade. However, upgrading TB 3.0 to 3.1 in a new directory does not allow me to import any of the old installation folders, setting, etc. Should I install 3.1 over the old installation. Please not that when I try to fetch updates from current 3.0.6 it find only 3.0.11; which should be no good for the case.

So, in a nutshell, to get the current version where I could add-on the current Lightning, I have to:
1. update current installation (not possible to go 3.1.x); or
2. Install a fresh 3.1, but then how to import everything into it from the old portable install.

Thanks for help..

Upgrade

You can install 3.1 over 3.0.6 and it will preserve everything. I'd recommend a backup first just to be safe, since you are so many versions behind.

old versions

can be found on mozilla addon website. Just click on the info to the particular addon and scroll down for older versions and it will tell you what is suitable for what.
If you pick wrong version, it will either be not installed or if upgraded the TB itself it will get dsiabled until you get the right version.

The main download buttons on the mozilla site are just for the latest version of the app in general, for legacy versions, legacy addons are needed.

To check automatically, well this I think is not possible since thee are many hundreds of addons off all sorts and versions, this would be probably an infinite task.
As addons are mostly portable itself, just sitting inside the profile of the app, so there is no point of having some extra table for portable apps and portable addons, this why you might have difficulty to find such url.

As for 3.0x TB it seems that 1.0b1 version the lightning addon would be the right one.
