To many BSOD with pFF

Yesterday & today i had several Blue screens of death. Every time, when i tried to search with google (with the searchengine in the top right corner), my pc crashed.

Am I the only one with this problem?

PFF is FF

Portable Firefox utilizes an unmodified copy of Firefox within itself. So, if you're seeing BSODs, I would guess there is something up with your computer that Firefox just happens to be triggering. The most likely culprits would be a corrupt video driver (this happens a lot) or a hardware issue.

So what makes pff different

So what makes pff different from ff, then, if it's just a copy?

The launcher

It wraps up a standard install of FF and, essentially, holds its hand to let it work portably from any location/path.

FF will hopefully get to the point of working portably without any special additions by 2.0. 1.5 took a few steps to get there as the Portable Firefox Launcher no longer needs to adjust the paths in chrome.rdf (though the code is still in there for folks that want to updare a 1.0.x profile). A few other adjustments are made to the profile, etc as well.

(i start a new "tree", the last one was very small)

Recently, i've also installed the extension "SessionSaver". I've noticed, when FF crashed, he will crash again if i try to reload the same session. So, i think there's somehow a problem in the combination of the session & software.

To discover the problem, you've always to regulate the parameters. What I didn't tell, was that i also used another Firewall & Virusscanner. I used to use (?) (first) ZoneAlarm and Kerio & Antivir from free-av.com. But Kerio isn't free anymore and the Antivir wouldn't work. So i installed Agnitum Outpost and Avast.

Yesterday i switched back to ZA & Antivir (and it's working now!). The BSOD's occur when i was working with Sage or the Google toolbar. Until now, i got no BSOD more - and of course i'm trying to let him crash ... Wink

Firefox Itself

Really won't cause a BSOD. It needs the help of a faulty video driver or something along those lines.

Your easiest fix is to get a better video card with better driver support.

Maybe your right. Maybe it

Maybe your right. Maybe it is the video card driver.

But since i've uninstalled the Outpost Firewall & Avast virusscanner, i didn't get any BSOD more ..! Normally i got 5 ~ 8 once a day, especially when i was using Sage or the searchbar. I've used sage & bar several times, but no BSOD appears.

However, it's a good excuse to buy a new video card Wink

I've installed Firefox (not pFF, but FF with real registry entries Smile and don't get any BSOD more (knock, knock ...).

Yeah

It sounds like it's your video drivers. What version of Windows are you on? If it's Windows 95/98/Me and you haven't done a drive format and reinstall of Windows in a while, it may be due for one. I used to reinstall annually when using Windows 9x to improve performance and cut down on crashes.

It's Xp with al the service

It's Xp with al the service packs & update's (just checked it manually today).

The video driver doesn't work well (i've an older card and the driver isn't developed further), so i'll use the MS driver. Strange enough is that i've reinstalled Win last week, and the trouble began a few days ago. Why? I'm not sure ...

The AGP card is TNT2 Model 64 (M64) Pro, found here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/71.84_geforcetnt2quadro_supported.html The latest model is 71.89 (14/4/2005)

Strangely enough, the BSOD disappear since i've installed Flash from macromedia.com.

I was too quick ... When i'm

I was too quick ...

When i'm using the Sage extension or the Google searchbar, a BSOD can appear ... randomly.

The latest driver from nvidia doesnt work with my card Pardon I think, there's something wrong with the driver, the card or my information about the card...

Now i'm looking for a good way to log al the events on my PC - any suggestions? I know Windows can do this automatically, but i can't find it.

Easiest thing to do

would be to get a new video card... one more solid than you got now. Barring that... try re-seating the card within your PC itself (open the case, pull it out, put it back in, dust out the case, follow standard anti-static precautions, etc... if you're unfamiliar with this, ask your friendly, neighborhood geek). Then try uninstalling the drive and the reinstalling a new one.

But, if the latest driver for your card from NVidia isn't working with your card... I think your card is bad.

Hey, i'm the geek here I'm

Hey, i'm the geek here Wink I'm only working with Office & 2D apps, so a good videocard was never high on my list.

Because of my geek-i-ness, i will find the problem.

But now i'm going to drink wine with my wife (beauty & nerd, anyone?)

Event Viewer is what you are looking for

It is the place where events are logged int he System log, application log, and security log. The application log will be where the PFF bsod events would be. Windows by default logs all applications errors to this file. Check in the administrative tools folder in Control panel for it's start location.
