I've been having problems with portable Chrome crashing for several weeks now. I found an old USB stick with Chrome 3.0 and it seems to work fine. However, I downloaded Chrome 8 to this stick and it will not run. Chrome will open, but will crash as soon as I try to load any website. Any ideas?
btw, I've tried the newer Chrome on 3 different jump drives and all 3 crashed.
If these were all run on the same PC, then it's a PC issue, so we'll need to know what operating system it is and any additional details. Also, what path did you install to.

It's a PC I use at work, which gives me very limited rights. The OS is XP (not sure which version). Yes, these were all run on this same PC. I believe the problem started after an update. I believe it was the beta version of Chrome 9 that I tried first. I've deleted all the files on my USB drive and tried to reinstall it. Same prob.
Have you tried Firefox Portable on that PC, or Opera Portable? If it's too locked down, Chrome may not work as it hooks into the OS more deeply than Firefox or Opera.

Yeah, I've been using Firefox ever since the problem started. It works fine. I just prefer Chrome since it's what I'm used to using. I was hoping there was a quick and easy solution.
Chrome isn't as self-contained as Firefox and Opera. It uses multiple pieces of IE/Windows internally (proxies, certificates, encryption, etc) so if you're on a really locked down PC that somehow restricts any of those, it just won't work.
