Known issues state, "LibreOffice doesn't like running from overly long paths. So, while it will work directly from your desktop... if you have it within a subdirectoy on your desktop, it will probably fail claiming that some files are corrupted."
Mine doesn't run on the desktop or anywhere on my computer. I wanted to try out LibreOffice without installing it. I don't know if it is LibreOffice or the portable version, but after putting it onto my flashdrive and opening it up, it doesn't function.
Once opened from a flashdrive the buttons, and menus don't work. It stops responding and then has to close for some reason, sending an error report.
I guess it is still too soon to try out. I am just curious if I am the only one experiencing this. I can't wait to check it out and use it. I love the portable apps that do work and that I use often.

We'll need some more information like what operating system you tried running on and where on the flash drive you installed it (X:\PortableApps\LibreOfficePortable is highly recommended). Also if you tried running it from your local PC (temporarily installing to C:\LibreOfficePortable) as this would rule out your flash drive and USB ports as problem spots and you can then just delete that directory.

I'm on windows xp
It runs on from the usb, but the buttons/tools really lag when you hover over them. It takes a long time for the program to recognize that I am there wanting to open a menu or tool. If I click on it it works, but it takes a long time, so long that I think it didn't work and give up.
From my PC I tried (C:\LibreOfficePortable) and it works, the same as from the flashdrive.

The PC install was just as slow? Are you running anything else in the background or at the same time? What antivirus/antimalware do you have installed? Could you try temporarily disabling it (after scanning everything first, of course) and running LibreOffice Portable from your C: drive again and see how it works then?

...with tool bar buttons lagging big time to the point LibreOffice is almost not usable. Running on Flash drive on PC with WinXP SP3, and Micro Trend OfficeScan anti-virus. I used the standard install path.
Could you try the same steps in my above post in your situation as well, please?

I ran the installer to install it on C:\LibreOfficeportable and it ran great without any of the delay issues. I then ran the installer to install it to the root of my flash drive (X:\LibreOfficeportable), but that didn't solve anything - the lagging was still there. Some times it would say that the program is not responding for a second or two. So, there's something with it being installed to my flash drive it would seem, but I don't know what it could be. OpenOfficePortable 3.2.0 worked just fine.
I can not disable anti-virus, because I'm using my work PC at the moment and I can't disable it. I will have to wait until I can get to my home PC later. My flash drive is a Sandisk Cruzer 8MB.
Any other suggestions?
From my experience (cruzer 16GB and 8GB) the SanDisk Cruzers are just horribly slow when writing/reading many small files (as programs often do).
This is why I'm currently moving all my PortableApps to an external HD, which is a lot faster for this.

Similar problem here - tool bar buttons lagging so much that LibreOffice is almost unusable when running the program from a USB stick. Openoffice Portable running from the same stick is *a lot* faster than LibreOffice. No such problem when running LibreOffice directly from C:\, it's still a bit slow but perfectly usable.
Tested on Windows 7, no anti-virus running in the background.
By the way, the installation is pretty big - 427MB compared to 337MB of my OpenOffice Portable installation.

First I installed it on my desktop (xp sp3).
LibreOffice wasn't able to start -> error message because long paths.....
I moved LibreOffice to D:/anwendungen/ .... there it works without any problems.
I copied LibreOffice to an USB-Drive .... there it work without any problems too.
I remember, with OOoP 3 I had a similar issue with long paths .....
Both OO.o and LO have very long paths within the app themselves. As such, you can't embed them in a long path because the total path length will exceed 255 characters which breaks some Windows file APIs.
It is recommended you keep your apps at C:\PortableApps if you run them from your main hard drive.

I think I may read a while back when I started using portable apps that installing to root was recommended, but I didn't remember, and didn't realize it could cause applications to crash.
I think it could be helpful to have documentation saying that not installing to root could cause issues with some applications due to long paths, or something similar. Then users installing to non-root directories could expect issues like this. It may be there and I just missed it, but I searched and couldn't find anything.

It is a problem/bug within LibreOffice itself so there isnt much we can do. The LibreOffice folks would have to corrent it...

I talked to the author. He made new Launchers that work from the folders with spaces. But he declined to provide the source code.

While Windows lets you name folders and files with spaces and quite a few unusual characters, that's no guarantee that every app will work with them. Your best bet is to stick with standard alphanumeric names, and instead of spaces you can use mixed caps (like "MyPortableApps") or the underscore character (such as "My_Portable_Apps").

If you are using portable apps from here, they won't care, unless you manually set some file paths that include those.
Other portable apps SHOULD be fine.
Remember, portable means that they are meant to use different drive letters on different computers, so they use relative file paths.
