I downloaded and installed TypeFaster 0.4.2 portable yesterday. I've used the non-portable version before.
I am trying to learn the Dvorak layout. But the only two layouts in the Layout drop-down list are US-English and Numeric-Keypad. I've checked, and all of the keyboard layouts appear to be in the distribution.
Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks.
Click the "Edit Settings" button in TypeFaster Portable to display the settings dialog. Click the "Change layouts enabled" button to display the list of available layouts then select the layouts you need (by default only two boxes are ticked). Click "Save" to close the layouts window, click "OK" to close the settings window and you should now be able the select the layout you want.
After I changed layout to UK and then disabled the US layout (but kept numeric), I found that errors came up when trying to restart it, saying that there was no settings file and there was a missing directory (layouts?).
To avoid these errors when changing layout, I found that you need to keep the US layout enabled as well. Don't untick it.
I have enabled only the Numeric-Keypad and UK-English layouts. When I start TypeFaster 0.4.2 portable it comes up with "UK-English" selected. I don't get any error messages.
If you launch your PortableApps.com Apps from the PortableApps.com Menu the apps are told to switch to the language that the Platform is using, thus if you disable that language in the app it might have some issues like the one you are experiencing, however if you launch the PortableApp directly (double click on TypeFasterPortable.exe [or any other official PortableApps.com app's ${AppName}Portable.exe]) it will stay with the language it was using when it was closed. I think that there is something you can do to disable this feature, but I can't remember what it was right now (search the forums, it has been discussed before).
