I know already that a network drive can run pac as long as it is shown as a removable drive, but I have another question

I am working with a network/systems admin who wants to give each of his users a portion of the file server as a virtual drive. He also wants pac, along with a custom set of apps, installed on each portion by default. Any advice or direction would be welcome.

sure it does

if you manage to have the network share properly maped as drive, then no problems. go ahead and try. It works fine.

and simply

place the apps on that network share, you can copy/paste it no problem, sometimes some extensions might not work, but you simply reinstall them , thats all, no magic or any other method then using any other drive is needed.

As far as setting up the

As far as setting up the fileshare and installing PortableApps.com Platform & Apps to it your "network/systems admin" probably knows more than I do, as I haven't done much server side where that configuration was used, but if you're asking how to map the network share to a drive letter, ↓↓look down↓↓.

Map the network share to a drive letter

  1. Right-Click "My Computer" [XP/2k] or "Computer" [Vista/7]
  2. Click "Map Network Drive..."
  3. Choose a Drive letter
  4. Click "Browse" and go find the network share
or type out where it is if you know it (e.g. \\ServerName\Path\to\share)
  5. Check or uncheck "Reconnect at logon" based on your preferences
  6. Make sure that all the users know not to have windows save their password when logging in to the server.
(we had some problems with this happening when I was in High School)
