Question re: PA.c menu

I am wondering if the menu can be made to "re-open" once an apps is closed.

Nope

Users usually run multiple apps, so after which app closing would it open? That would be a lot to monitor.

If you need it open quickly (and are using the 2.0 beta) just hit WIN-ALT-SPACE

trust me to be using ancient

Smile trust me to be using ancient technology.

Is there an alternative to the Windows Key at all?

Thanks.

P.S. I know you would be busy but about this feature request, it is only on an app by app basis that I'd be wanting to monitor anything not so much stuff I've run outside of the menu because the list is great when you have heaps of tiny (pa or no pa) programs

Custom

We're gonna add the ability to do a custom shortcut in an upcoming release.

With a little work, you could probably remap your CAPS LOCK key to be a Windows key, making it more useful.

Hi, Would that mean there

Hi,

Would that mean there will be a shortcut in the Start Menu or desktop or something created?

If so, that would be very cool but only if it can be "re-created" that is if it is deleted there is a place in the menu to make another one, at least on the desktop.

Thank you

Hotkey

Sorry, I meant hotkey. But there will be some custom shortcut options at some point as well.

Yes but...

... it's not the point of my post, is it?

What IS the point of your post?

If you take what you are saying literally, the way it can re-open is to open it again.
Of course, since you put "re-open" in quotes, it's possible you have a special meaning to that word, but since we can't read your mind, you need to be a lot more descriptive.

Here's what I do:
First I start the menu using StartPortableApps.exe.
It opens automatically, then minimizes to the system tray as an icon.
When I want to open an app, I click on the icon and the menu opens.
I select the app, the menu minimizes to an icon again and the app runs.
When I am done with the app, I close it.
When I want to re-open the menu, I click on the icon again and the menu opens.

If this is not the answer to your question, you need to describe the problem in a lot more detail.

I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.

The point is I am tired of

The point is I am tired of having to go to the system tray all the time.

BTW has anyone heard of a program called "Hot Keys"?

Maybe someone can ask the developer to make that portable and integrate a few of its' functions into the menu so you can map keys.

The menu (pa.c) is good, but not very advanced in some areas.

Cheers

Again

Ah, you sucked me into a fool's errand AGAIN.

You didn't want to use a "modern" keyboard so I assumed that you knew how to use a mouse. That evidently isn't the point, as you say... the point is that no matter what gets suggested, it is somehow wrong for you.

I won't be tempted again.

I have better ways to waste my time.

I'm using a Laptop

I'm using a Laptop which is fixed technology.

I think you'd be surprised how many people actually use older OS's and older, slower machines.

Fortunately this place has a fairly substantial amount of software that can help improve those old systems, with a good bunch of people who can help you find more stuff that although may not be portable, is also useful.

All the best

X:\PortableApps\PortableApps.com\Data\PortableAppsMenu.ini
PortableAppsMenu.ini

[DisplayOptions]
RemainVisible=True

If you add a line under [DisplayOptions] in PortableAppsMenu.ini (in PortableApps.com\Data) the Menu won't go away when you open an app (it'll be open in the background), so when you close the app, it will still be open.
Hope that helps.
(if it doesn't, I'd say you'd have to remap some other key on your keyboard to act as the "Windows Key" [aka "Super Key"], or deal with using the mouse.)

Hi, I am aware of that

Hi,

I am aware of that option, thank you.

Here's hoping there will be a simple key command mapper in the menu itself.
