Is this the week of the new 2.0 platform?

Based on John's Happy New Year message, posted of January 1,2011, this should be the week that the 2.0 platform should be released to the public.

"We'll be following that with 1 or 2 more betas and then the 2.0 final release later this month. Yes, you read that right. The 2.0 final release later this month... or within a week thereof... just to be safe. :)"

I can hardly wait.

I am filling up my stick with the new app releases.

Don't hold your breath

You are correct John said exactly that.

I wouldn't hold your breath though as we never got the first beta never mind the 1 or 2 more. As for the 2.0 final you may get it sometime this year, then again at the rate things move on here maybe not.

Yes and No

There were some delays due to personal and technical issues. But we should be debuting the next stable (with updater) and 2.0 beta versions this week.

Note: This schedule was revised.

I understand!

John and all,

Having work in IT for nearly 40 years, I know the negative impact of releasing software that is not fully tested. I would prefer a delay rather than dealing with 'bugs'.

I appreciate all you and your cadre does for us with the PortableApps platform and the packaging and testing of all the apps.

I, like many, have not done what we should, that is contribute to this fine work, and I will very soon.

SW33T!!

Can't wait for it. (well, technically I can, but it's kind of a saying ok?)
So we'll have 2 versions coming out this week? (Stable & a new Beta)
Note: If something comes up & it doesn't work to put out a new release (stable or beta I don't mind either way) this week, please just let us know, we understand that things come up, but it is nice to know.

Told you so

I told you not to expect too much.

We didn't even get the promised weekly update ( after 9 days )

Things take time.

Be thankful your getting anything at all, considering it is:
a) free
b) worked on by people who aren't getting paid for what they are doing
c) awesome

If you are so desperate to have it yesterday, go and code it yourself, otherwise please wait patiently like the rest of us.

Defining Weekly

Weekly means one update per week. There was an update last week, there will be an update this week. It does not mean one update every 168 hours, 0 minutes and 0 seconds. Smile

And, as indicated, the schedule was revised after the above post as per last week's update: https://portableapps.com/blogs/johnhaller/2011-02-01_status_update

As Far As I am concerned:

John, any person who wants to rant about how you are running behind on this 100% FREE application that you put hard time and sweat into, without hoping for any form of payback from the general public, should try to make a better application without any help from others. I am 100% behind you on any schedule that you have to keep, and I am quite happy with PA as it is in Beta 5 (with the possible exception of categories, but you have told us you are working on it).

I read all the rants about your timing and missing deadlines, and I think back to some of the times I have had hardships and unforeseen circumstance blow my deadlines out of the water.

As far as I am concerned, you are rightly more concerned about quality than timely releases. I applaud that!!! Take all the time you need to get things done to your satisfaction, and all your diehard fans of PA will be happier for it!!!
