interesting but I wonder since it works from the context manager of Windows Explorer how one could make it portable yet still functional with the context manager?

you can try the portable version and understand yourself.
There is an outdated version available in the forums. Someone would have to update it.

Trace-wise, Unlocker leaves HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_UNLOCKERDRIVER5 behind, but that's it. However, it looks like some ACL-fu is needed to delete it, looking at the source code from his old version. We've got an NSIS plugin for ACL though, so if someone wants to give it a go...

Once you download the portable version and open the zipped file, there is a README.TXT file saying:
