LibreOffice Portable Edition Will Not Install

Win XP Pro SP3

I downloaded LibreOffice Portable v 3.3 and tried to install it on my USB drive along with several other Portable Apps. I got "Please close all instances of Libre OpenOffice PE and then click OK. The portable app can not be updated while it is running". But it is *not* running. It isn't even installed; this is the first time I've downloaded it.

Help.

Please.

OpenOffice.org Starter

You have the OpenOffice.org Starter running in your system tray. LibreOffice and OpenOffice.org use the exact same executables.

Thank You

Thank you. Quitting the Quickstarter did it.

Bug?

On reflection, I think it's a bug in LibreOffice's installation mechanism that a component of OpenOffice.org can interefere with that mechanism. It's like saying you can't install Firefox because Internet Explorer is running.

Comments?

Nope

OpenOffice.org and LibreOffice are still basically the same app. If you detect one executable you detect them both. Your analogy would only make sense if Internet Explorer also showed up as firefox.exe in the running tasks (which it does not).

Disagree

The idea that the LO executables interfere with the OOo executables is poor. It's poor design, it's poor implementation and it's poor marketing.

Fork

Libre Office is a fork of OpenOffice.org.
Libre Office is similar enough to OpenOffice.org that installing one while either one is running could mess up the install.

Disagree, Fact

You can disagree all you'd like, but the fact remains that both apps use the exact same EXEs. If you'd like it changed, you'll need to talk to the developers.

Please close all instances ... 3.6.1

I see the first msg about this in 2011. Today I tried the v3.6.1 but I got still the msg "Please close all instances of Libre OpenOffice PE and then click ok.
And of course:
- it is not running! I try to install it.
- Never ran LOO before
- Never ran OO before
- No version of MS-Office or whatever.
Maybe a library is missing, but the message is not helpfull.
Anyone a good idea or a solution ?

soffice.exe

The only way that message appears is if soffice.exe/soffice.bin is running somewhere on your system. Check task manager and show from all users.

Solved!

I killed the process and installed LOO.
Now it is installing and a few minutes later it runs.
I tried to findout why soffice.exe was running.
- I checked the registry => nothing found
- I checked startup => nothing found
- I checked the services started => nothing found
- at the end I did a find all on soffice.exe and the only file which
returns was : C:\windows\Prefetch
And google says about the Prefetch:
Each time you turn on your computer, Windows keeps track of the way
your computer starts and which programs you commonly open.
The next time you turn on your computer, Windows refers to these files
to help speed the start process.
Maybe a failed installation or ... brought soffice there.

So the solution: kill soffice.exe and run the installer again.
Thanks John for the reply.
