Features

Screenshot VirtuaWin is a virtual desktop manager for the Windows . A virtual desktop manager lets you organize applications over several virtual desktops (also called 'workspaces'). Virtual desktops are very common in Unix/Linux, and once you get accustomed to using them, they become an essential part of a productive workflow. You can configure as 1 to 9 independent desktops and switch between them with a hotkey (CTRL-ALT-ARROWS by default) or menus.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

VirtuaWin Portable is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. Just wanted to let you guys know, this app SUCKS...

...until you set it up right.

For some dumb reason, Windows doesn't do multiple desktops like Linux does. Even Windows 7... you'd think they'd figure out Linux's killer feature (IMO) but no. This app is pretty good, though it needs to put a widget or some such on the taskbar next to and independent of the system tray that lets you click on the individual desktops. I'm cool with using the mouse to push to the other desktops, but you have to set it up to do that.

Not neccessarily. I mainly use the keyboard more than anything else and I found this to be easier to use than most of the others, mainly because it was small, doesn't lag when it changes desktops and because I didn't have to use the mouse.

But there’s no sense crying over every mistake,
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Most people who use multiple desktops use arrow keys to switch them. CTRL-ALT and then the arrow keys switch between them.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

The i-conized module for Virtuawin is particularly useful, if you prefer linux-ish clickable rectangles.

I've tried all sorts of virtual desktop apps, but the only one I keep around is Virtuawin+i-conized. It ran portably before, but the portableapps setup is a definite help!

I used to have a sig...until one of the mods ate it

I've fixed that.

This is very useful for me, having loads of windows open for one thing or another Smile

I got errors when first starting it, BUT it is because CTRL + ALT + arrow is already registered...it makes my screen go sideways Blum
(errors are gone once I reassign the keys...NBD)

Just flicking the mouse to the right or left to switch is my prefered setup.

Compared to desktops, which I used at one point, this is much better.

Can't believe I missed this in the beta forums...

Keep the new apps coming Biggrin

Thanks

EDIT: (Sorry ;)) "allows you to have up to 9 independent virtual desktops"
You can have up to 20...least I can

your screen goes sideways probably because you have an Intel Media Graphics Accelerator or something (the PCs at school do the same thing).

BTW Pyromaniac, for the next release, we could edit userpath.cgh to be ${VIRTUAWIN_PATH}\..\..\Data\config (and move the CFG files there) so the launcher wouldn't have to stick around. I didn't want to switch it without checking with you as I don't know if all the VirtuaWin plugins would support this. I did update your launcher.ini to handle the window.cfg and added an installer.ini to preserve modules and icons. Smile

How about the next time a new version of VirtuaWin is released, we add them changes?

Want to post it as a launcher update test in the forums before then? I think we need to ensure that all the plugins work properly.

Yep, that's exactly what it says when you hover over the tray icon Blum

We had loads of fun with that one in school Biggrin

And it is also FAQ #1 in the VirtuaWin help.

I'm using it with a dual monitor setup.
