Does anybody have a good suggestion for doing language strings? Q-Dir doesn't follow any standard pattern; instead of the usual language codes, Q-Dir uses a number to represent each language. For example, English is 1, German is 0, and Korean is 7.
I'll probably end up re-defining the appropriate PortableApps values with a [LanguageStrings] section, but I'd like to see if anybody has a better idea first.

Crazy, isn't it. [LanguageStrings] is going to be the way to go, I think. Unless you can convince the developer to "fix" it.

I'll drop the developer a note and see if he's willing to fix that. It looks like a pretty fragile way of handling languages, and I'm not at all sure that will work properly with the PortableApps language system. Hopefully the Default language case will keep everything working, but I'm not willing to bet on that.

I do the same with Atomic Tanks which uses numbers for the different languages too.

Thanks for the pointer to ATanks; I ended up using it as a template for Q-Dir. Getting everything set wasn't too bad, but IMHO it's a fairly fragile way of doing languages.

The more I play the nicer it looks, I like the idea of being able to associate specific programs to open specific file types as well as being able to use a relative path. Now I need to play with the tree as I ultimately would love to be able to print out a directory listing like XTree Gold used to do.

The Online installer no longer works as Q-Dir is now at 4.46.
Given the frequency with which this software is updated, I'm not convinced that an online installer can work effectively, unless it is self updating as with the CCleaner example. Of course you would then be dependent on the developer not changing the download link on every update.

As agdurrette said, the download location is still the same; the problem is the new Q-Dir package, which has a MD5 different from the one I specified in installer.ini. I should be able to temporarily fix the problem by not specifying any MD5 in installer.ini, but that's not exactly an ideal long-term solution.
EDIT: Starting from version 4.46 Development Test 1, Q-Dir Portable should be able to handle future Q-Dir updates. I deleted the MD5-check.
Hopefully, I'll hear back from the Q-Dir author soon, and he'll give me permission to put the local installer back up.

The link in installer.ini goes to a web page. In Win WGet it downloads a html file with the .zip file extension. The web pages gives this file http://www.softwareok.com/Download/Q-Dir_Portable_Unicode.zip

Still does not work. From the looks of it the problem is the download link you have in the installer. The link you have goes to a web page which the installer is downloading as a .zip file making it error. Changing it to http://www.softwareok.com/Download/Q-Dir_Portable_Unicode.zip should work as it is the actual file and not a web page.

Thanks for working on a PortableApps version of Q-Dir. Does this Q-Dir portable launch a 32-bit or 64-bit Q-Dir exe? Or, like the PortableApps 7zip, does it autodetect the 32/64-bit version of the OS and launch the right rev?
It's 32-bit. There's no need for the 64-bit version as the 32-bit version works just fine on Windows x64.

Q-Dir 64bit works much better on win764bit than the 32bit version.
As Q-Dir64bit is already quite portable it is only a question of will
portableapps allow a packaging of the better version?

I'll randomly reply to this...
In most circumstances, not better at all. However when it comes to file managers, most apps with shell extensions still only install the extension for the target platform (ie 64-bit) and don't also install the 32-bit extension. 7-Zip and Notepad++ are good examples. That means in a 32-bit file manager on a 64-bit system... you can't access or use any of your shell extensions. It's annoying to say the least.
I realize this may not be a top concern in the PApps landscape since no platform app is installing shell extensions, but it's still nice to be able to access the host's installed software.
And I use that for local software. But as explorer extensions can only be uninstalled properly with a reboot (or by crashing explorer.exe), so they can't be part of portable apps at the moment.

64bit is almost always better - there I've also expressed my
opinion.

I read in above August 2013 comment, that the publisher gave permission to release the app.
