this is mine, but...

I was the one who created the launcher. But, according to my install, it's 45.6 MB. Amazingly, my installer size seems to be slightly smaller though. I'll try to upload my one ASAP. I also need a 128 px image of the icon though...

Yeah, I know you created it,

Yeah, I know you created it, but me and Kiriko managed to tweak the code a bit so it could work and managed to shrink the size.

Feedback

I've seen that there's been quite some download (not sure about installs though) and It'd be nice to see some feedback. I'm not sure if I should be uneasy or carefree about the fact that there hasn't been any problems so far.

Feedback?

Here's some. Since it was actually done and coded by auscompgeek, at the very least mention him in the acknowledgement section of your opening post.

[...] but me and Kiriko managed to tweak the code a bit so it could work and managed to shrink the size.

IIRC, you and Kiriko didn't make any tweaks to the code itself. You only created a valid AppInfo.ini, compiled a launcher using auscompgeek's code, and then shrank it a bit with AppCompactor. And all that was done with an unusual amount of noise ("Meh", "heh", "ah", "lol", "how....", "typo*" etc) in the channel.

As for the app itself, let it be for a while and try practising patience. Feedback will come if enough people use it - some reported 30-40 downloads so far really ain't that many... Remember, it may take well over a 100 downloads before feedback starts coming.

My posts are old and likely no longer relevant.

Wow

I can not thank you enough for making this. Honestly. (made this account just to post it)

I was trying to download XULRunner, with the extraction proscess and commands and command prompt, Run, etc for a while. Eventually I tried running it through Firefox without starting firefox using the chatzilla I'd downloaded from here: http://chatzilla.rdmsoft.com/xulrunner/ and that worked, but it was still encountering the firefox freezing problem that led me to try and run chatzilla without firefox in the first place.

AND THEN I found a link to this wonderful place via google, with a simple click and another click I was on it in seconds. I will highly recommend.

(that goes to auscompgeek foremost for making it, obvs, and whoever it was that made it a download. Biggrin )

No problem I guess, but yeah

No problem I guess, but yeah many props go to auscompgeek too for making it work Smile And ChatZilla updates too (since the packaged one is slightly old) so you should run "/update" in ChatZilla whenever you get the chance. It'll DL and install the newest rmdsoft version portably Smile

out-of-date-ness

Yeah, the packaged version is horribly out of date. How old is the XULRunner as well? I'd imagine that's out of date as well, but it doesn't really matter. If anyone is going to update the package, ensure to update the XULRunner to 1.9.3.22. Smile

Yeah, that's the main thing I gotta update. I think I might do that later today or tomorrow since I got a day off from school Smile And adding an updated ChatZilla wouldn't hurt either Smile

Chatzilla.ini

I just tried to add ChatzillaPortable.ini to the main directory so I could disable the splashscreen, but I keep getting a message that says the following:

"ChatZilla, Portable Edition cannot be started. You may wish to re-install to fix this issue. (ERROR: xulrunner.exe could not be found)"

The program runs fine without the INI, though. The only change I've made was altering disablesplashscreen=false to true.

Anyone know what the problem might be? If it's relevant at all, I run Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-Bit, SP1.

You need to make the changes

You need to make the changes to the ChatZillaPortable.ini in the /Other/source. folder. Placing the ChatZIllaPortable.ini in the main directory screws with the hierarchy of which INI file to use, thus substituting the one with all the path settings and using the one with your only one setting. Smile

tl;dr: Go to Other/source/ChatZillaPortable.ini and change DisableSplashScreen to true.

Did that, but the splash still shows.

Okay, I did as you said, but now I seem to have encountered a new problem: even when DisableSplashScreen is set to true in the INI, the splash screen still shows on execution.

Incorrect instructions

This is incorrect. As listed in the ini in Other\Source:

# The above options are explained in the included readme.txt
# This INI file is an example only and is not used unless it is placed as described in the included readme.txt

You only need to include the specific lines you want. In other words, if the only modification you want to do is to disable the splashscreen, you only include that one line in ChatZillaPortable.ini, whihc you save beside ChatZillaPortable.exe and help.html

Tried that, no luck.

I put an INI in the root ChatzillaPortable directory which only contained "DisableSplashScreen=true". I got the same error message as I did in my original post, with ChatzillaPortable refusing to run until the INI was removed.

After testing, I stand corrected

After having tested this, I see that you are correct. mrmcpowned: This needs to be fixed, as this is incorrect behaviour for the app to be exhibiting.

Well, I can see now that that

Well, I can see now that that doesn't seem to work. I'm not sure as to why the behavior is happening as it shouldn't mess around with the default values of whatever isn't mentioned in the ini. Any help towards fixing this is appreciated and welcomed too.

The first problem is that the

The first problem is that the INI supplied with the application uses 'PlatformDirectory' and 'PlatformExecutable' instead of 'ToolkitDirectory' and 'ToolkitExecutable'. This is a simple change.

The second problem is that the EndINI section of the launcher checks if '$PROGRAMDIRECTORY\$PROGRAMEXECUTABLE' exists, instead of '$TOOLKITDIRECTORY\$PROGRAMEXECUTABLE'. Unfortunately, this means the launcher needs to be recompiled

I've tested these changes and it works fine.

Sweet, thanks for finding that Biggrin I should be able to compile a fresh copy come the end of the week. Currently vacationing since it's spring break on my end.

Failure on my part

This is an extreme failure on my part. I obviously hadn't tested that before publishing the source code. (Note to self: test code before publishing.)

Also, these checks really aren't needed. From what I've seen, the XULRunner stub launcher checks for XULRunner in an xulrunner/ subdirectory, therefore making most of my coding efforts useless.

Time to get out the launcher generator now. Smile

How to copy settings from old Chatzilla to Portable Chatzilla?

I normally use non-portable XULRunner/Chatzilla standalone on XP. I can't get it to work on Windows 7.

Portable Chatzilla works on Windows 7. I see the ChatZillaPortableSettings.ini but don't know where the settings are on XP to copy over?

Any help is appreciated!
