Nascent-Project.org Hosting to Shut Down 2011-09-01

Just a heads up that unfortunately I'll be shutting down the Nascent-Project.org hosting on September 1, 2011. I figured this is a fair bit a notice to allow any developers still hosting on my server to seek out alternate hosting options. SourceForge is a bit of work, but it does work. Luckily it seems that only Simeon, prapper, and Bart.S have been hosting there in recent months.

I've turned on directory indexing at http://nascent-project.org to allow anyone to freely navigate and download older projects. The good news is you've all done a fantastic job over the past few months in pushing out a ridiculous amount of new applications. Hopefully that makes nearly everything that was previously being downloaded off my server through old beta testing threads as obsolete. Those of you with FTP access are welcome to continue uploading or downloading until that time (including you, Bart.S).

This will also unfortunately force palogbot to find a new home, along with his beloved channel logs. I believe a couple other folks have servers to work with so hopefully we can toss him on one of those and he won't find a need to leave the channel so frequently. Come August end (or earlier, even) I'll compress the logs for who's ever chosen to taken on hosting palogbot.

I apologize for having to shut it down, but it's a couple hundred bucks a year and I'm simply not using it at all so I see no reason to dish out more money come September.

Any questions or concerns just hit up here or at me@myusername.com.

Cheers,
- Patrick

Hosting palogbot

I think I could host palogbot on my WebFaction account. I'll check it out; I think you had a couple of minor modifications that you'd made to loggy.py? (It's all very well having +Index but loggy.py is getting evaluated, not sent raw, so I can't check.)

Yeah, a Few

I'll package him up with the logs (or some logs, anyways) for you to work with and tweak anymore should you wish.

Thanks

Thats sad to hear but its not the end of the world.
Being able to host my stuff on your server for free has been great and I am truly thankful as it was very easy. I kinda figured that it wouldn't be going on for ever sice you moved on and its really nice to have that much of a head start.

Thanks for everything Patrick!

EDIT: I think you mean september 2011?

Thanks for the offer!

I think I don't need it, though. I have no plans to do more development tests. If something changes maybe I'll come back to you. Smile

Thanks for the heads up!

And many thanks for great free hosting and all your fantastic work in the past. I appreciated it very much and I think "nascent-project.org" has helped many developers contributing to PortableApps.com. It's kinda sad but understandable that the nascent project is dying now. It should be doable to push all development tests to official apps till september though.

Once again, thanks very much good sir. And no need to apologize. Smile
All the best,
Bart.S

Better hold on to Win Penguins

After such a long time of knowing I could redownload winpenguins any time I accidentally lost the program with a flashdrive. Better hold on to it this time.

nice

Thanks Patrick for your past support and Chris for your current. Logs are nice to keep track of what's happened over night...
And I especially like the new @@-feature!

I posted all this here as I couldn't answer to your blogpost.

Sorry

Comments were read-only for some reason. Not sure why, read/write is the default. Fixed it now.

Domain Expiration

Just a heads up that I'm letting nascent-project.org expire and it will do so on the 6th of August.

Following that files will still be available with patrickpatience.com/nascent-project in place of the existing domain. Everything else will shut down in a couple weeks.

Congrats on the platform pre-release and homepage redesign.

- Patrick

Transfer?

Any way you could renew it and then transfer it to me? I'll pay the renewal and xfer costs. That way anyone coming to it will wind up here.
