plugins

This isnt a bug of the new version, but I post it anyway. I installed some of the input- and output-plugins for my AbiWord Portable and they showed up in the "installed programms"-list on my pc. So my question is:
Is there any possibility to get around this or is it an Abiword-problem we cant get rid of?

When you install the

When you install the plug-ins (tools or import/export), make sure to uncheck the "Create uninstaller..." item at the very bottom.

How about....

Releasing two versions - the second being a 'maxi' version of Abiword with all the stardard Plugins and Import/Export Filters preinstalled??

Not Two

I won't do two versions... as I'm trying to avoid having users have to make a choice when they're initially downloading (it's confusing for the less technically minded). It's pretty easy to install everything you need. And it doesn't take any longer than installing them in regular AbiWord.

I'll add that

I've added that to the plugin instructions on the support page.

The custom dictionary

The custom dictionary support seems to function well. I notice that it even detects an existing custom.dic file on the host computer :). One side note (in case it went undetected): the MSWrite plug-in was packaged.

Odd

I specifically unselected it.

no opening of password-secured OOo (.odt) - files

It's no problem to open Openoffice-Writer-files (.odt) as long that file are NOT password-secured. Password-secured OOo - Writer - files lead to an error-message ("error in importing ......").

In contrary to the import of MS-Word (.doc) files. MS Word files can be imported whether they are password-secured or not .....

AbiWord Itself

I think that's a limitation of the ODT plugin for AbiWord itself. If it doesn't work in regular AbiWord, it won't work in AbiWord Portable.

I generally distrust the file protection on document files directly and prefer to secure mine in an encrypted archive. 7-Zip Portable is handy for this.

AbiWord Portable 2.4.6. Pre-Release 1

I kept having issues with this release of abiword. I have never used it on my computer before and wanted to try it in replacing openoffice because it doesnt take up as much room on my flash drive. I save all of my files as microsoft word files so they should open just fine in abiword. AbiWord loads a small word document fine, but larger files will not load, and these files aren't password protected either. When I try loading larger word files Abiword locks up and I have to close it in the task manager.
