PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

System Explorer Portable is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. It supports upgrades by installing right over an existing copy, preserving all settings. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.

Thanks Josh for your work on this. And thanks to Mister Group for making it available!

From the HWiNFO download page:

Any modifications to the packages are forbidden.

Putting the app in PortableApps Format counts as modifying it, unfortunately. That means we can't legally package it.

"The question I would like to know, is the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything. All we know about it is that the Answer is Forty-two, which is a little aggravating."

There is a development test here. It was developed officially by them as mumak seems to be the developer of HWiNFO32. It seems not to be active anymore but who knows. Maybe they just need some prod to make contact with John to get this out official since it seemed very promising.

Attempting to update from a DevTest install using the Platform's Updater reports "Download Error: File Not Found (404) on file http://downloads.sourceforge.net/portableapps/SystemExplorerPortable_2.7.3.3470.paf.exe". Checking the Update.ini it looks like their was a typo, DownloadURL should say DownloadPath thus

DownloadURL=Outdated download link removed

Thank You for another great release.

This program is very useful! It's even better than Sysinternals ProcessExplorer. Thanks for the release!
Smile

Edit: Why it keeps showing you the license agreement on every computer that you run it?

I took a look at the System Explorer settings file and it appears to be saving the first-run setting in Data\config.ini. The problem is that it's saving the data in a user_numericID section, where numericID is a number that's probably based on the computer and user account. In other words, when you switch to a different computer or user account, System Explorer gets and saves the first-run setting (and a few other settings) in a different section of the settings file.

I'll send a note to the System Explorer dev and see if he can fix that; I don't think there's much I can do in the launcher, since I don't know exactly how the user ID is generated.

Thanks for the report!

Ahh!
At least it's not leaving settings on host computer. Smile So there's no problem.

PA.c is a common short-form here for PortableApps.com (this site) thus the "PA.c Menu" would be the Menu available in the PortableApps.com Platform, though the Updater is not available in the current "Stable" build (1.6.x), thus if you wish to use it you'll have to use the latest "Beta" build (2.0 Beta 5 downloadable from HERE)

The "Stable" version of the platform should be getting updated* to version 1.9 relatively soon, and this will likely include the Updater as well as Categories and possibly other features too. 8)

* This will be a manual update, as the 1.6.x releases don't have an update system.

Two questions need answering in order to answer your question.

  • What link did you click?
  • What is the file-name of the "windows installer" you downloaded when you clicked "the link"
