Firefox Portable creates and delete C:\WINNT\Profiles\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla - is this "normal" behavior?

Hi,

I've searched the support page and can't find any who may have the same problem that am having. According to the privacy FAQ, none should have been written to the C:\ drive so am wanting to know what's causing this.

Am using Firefox Portable from PortableaApps and I let Firefox update whenever it want to. Currently am on Firefox 3.6.13. Just noticed that everytime I run Firefox it creates the directory C:\WINNT\Profiles\\Application Data\Mozilla, is this normal or expected behaviour of the portable version?

Under this directory are two (2) sub-directories as below:

Extensions\{system generated folder}
Firefox\Crash Reports

The directory and its sub-directories get deleted when I exit from Firefox. Just wanting to know if this is expected behavior of the portable edition? Or is there any settings, extensions, add-ons, plugins etc who creates these directories. I must admit I got lots of these around.

FYI, did a Google of {ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384} which is the folder created under the Extensions folder. Not sure what to make of it though. From the link https://wiki.mozilla.org/Extension_Blocklisting:Code_Design, it says it has something to do with blocklisting some extensions or something like that but didn't mention whether it can be turned off somehow.

Hope to get some feedback and recommendation on this. Thanks in advance.

Think you answered your own question

You should not be letting FF-Portable update whenever it wants, you need to update it from PortableApps, as the Portable version has modifications that do not occur when you update with the "normal" version's updater. This may be why you are getting unwanted files and directories written

Hi, Thanks for your response.

Hi,

Thanks for your response. According to https://portableapps.com/forums/support/firefox_portable/faq#1, it is okay to do the Firefox Update?

Anyway, is there a way around this problem that am having?

that keeps firefox updated ...

as opposed to keeping firefox portable updated. Biggrin The main difference being that the newer ff portable version that is updated here is tweaked to the new ff version, usually only a few days the new ff is released.

I don't let ff update itself, I just check here. Or you can let it notify you, but not do it and then come here if you don't visit here regularly.

so I should download updates manually?

I used the internal updater yesterday, with no obvious problems. I will have to check if it's creating some random local folder. I would not know if it was doing this before, though. I don't normally go into the C drive. I only use Windows (and FFP) at school. The C drive is blocked. I only access it (illegally) when I have an actual need, which isn't very often.
