...use the PA Platform 2.0.5 Beta!
I've been a long-time user of PortableApps, but have tended to use them in conjunction with other launchers. Today, I decided to download and install the PA Platform 2.0.5. I liked it.
When grouping categories are available in the menu, that would make the menu navigation easier.
I hope the PA file association module isn't too long in coming. For the time being, I'm using coffee to create the associations and that works perfectly.
I can use the PA Explore option to open up any non-PA portable apps that I use. The result is that I no longer see any reason not to use the PA Platform as my primary portableapps launcher.
The update checker is very useful. Category groupings and file associations will make a big impact, so fingers-crossed with that.

You can have any non-PAF apps show up just by placing them in the right directory:
