Firefox 1.5.0.70 U3 fails to run on Sandisk USBkey

Hello

I have a Sandisk Cruzer Micro 4Gb U3 Edition

Each time I try to run Firefox or thunderbird it fails. (no specific reason)

It just says:

"U3 Launchpad

An Error has occured while trying to start the selected program."

Seems to be the launchpad, but all other applications just works fine.

I've the last version of the launchpad sandisk edition.

Regards,

M.

Files there?

The U3 Launchpad gives pretty meaningless error messages, so you'll need to diagnose what's going on. My guess is that the file was probably removed silently by antivirus software on a computer you were on when it falsely detected a problem in the launcher. Check here (you'll have to show hidden files):

?:\System\Apps\3C9F7B3F-D55C-42cd-8537-B878518B73AF\Exec

And ensure you have a FirefoxForU3Start.exe, FirefoxForU3HostConfigure.exe and a firefox directory (containing firefox.exe) within there. If not, then a poorly-configured antivirus program deleted it. If that's the case, try reinstalling Firefox for U3 over itself. If that won't work (I don't think it will), you'll need to download the U3P of Firefox for U3 from Software Central (right-click and select save as)... rename it to a .zip file. And then open it up and copy the files I mentioned above from it onto your U3 drive in the location I mentioned above.

Also, moved this to the U3 Apps forum. You'd posted in Firefox Portable, which is the forum for the open portable app that runs from any device, not Firefox for U3.

nice try, no results

Hi,
the idea was good, I tried to unzip files and overright over the old one, I tried to install via u3 and manually while my AV was disabled, but it does not work Sad

here is a list of the files in the folder

http://www.lightstar.it/yu/list-firefoxportable.txt

but unfortunately I do not believe that it's a missing file problem.

I do believe that is the updated version of launchpad application Beee

Is there, as far as you know, a way to downgrade the launchpad application?
Or do you have any other solution for the problem?

Thanks.

Reinstall

Hmm, it does appear the files are there. Something could have gotten corrupted. My suggestion would be to reinstall the application. If this were Firefox Portable, I'd say just reinstall it over your current copy... but I don't think U3 lets you do this.

So, first, you want to backup your profile (if you don't care about any bookmarks, etc, you can skip this).

1. Copy the contents of the following folder to a local folder, maybe create a "profile" folder on your desktop to keep it in:
G:\System\Apps\3C9F7B3F-D55C-42cd-8537-B878518B73AF\Data\profile

2. Uninstall Firefox for U3 through the U3 Launchpad

3. Download Firefox for U3 and reinstall

4. Run Firefox for U3 to be sure it's working as expected

5. Close down Firefox for U3 and then eject your U3 device

6. Re-insert your U3 device

7. Copy those files you backed up back to the place they were on your U3 device

8. Start Firefox for U3

If step 4 fails, then something is wrong with your drive or launchpad and you'll need to contact the vendor of your drive. If step 4 works but step 8 fails, then something in your profile is corrupt and you'll need to work through these steps again and try just copying in pieces of your profile (bookmarks.html for bookmarks, etc).

tried..

I tried many many times to reinstall the application, but nothing new happened..

I don't think that the key is corrupted because all other applications just works fine. Maybe it's my launchpad that doesn't like portableapps ?!

I'm asking to sandisk technical support the same stuff I'm asking here. For now we are at the same point... reinstall the application.

Obviously nothing happened. What is your new advise?

M.

None

Firefox for U3 is certified to work on all U3 devices. If it won't work out of the gate on yours (default install) and you get the error in the launchpad that it can't start, then it's something wrong with your device or your PC.

As a test, try downloading and installing Firefox Portable. It's the open portable app of Firefox. Just extract it to the root of your U3 drive (the writable drive letter). It'll create a FirefoxPortable folder. In there, run FirefoxPortable.exe and see if that works. If it does, then it's 100% an issue with your drive or launchpad and your PC is fine. If it doesn't, then there may be something wrong with your PC.

I tried this to.. the portable apps standalone on the key works fine... (I tried because I was getting bored not to have my firefox on the key Biggrin

Don't know what else to do.. but I agree with you...

I'll let you know if I have some news from sandisk

or waiting for new ideas.

Yeah

The ball would be in their court. I find it hard to believe they'd release an update to the launchpad that would break Firefox for U3 (it's the most popular app), so I'd wager it's something hardware wise... or at least I'd hope. I hope they follow through on a solution for you.

Firefox 1.5.0.70 U3 fails to run on Sandisk USBkey

FireFox U3 edition works fine on my SanDisk Cruzer using launcher version 1,2,0,9.

I always download direct from the website. I've found automatic updates don't work for me - Launcher, CruzerSync, Skype all claimed to be up to date although they were not.

Cheers,
