I've just installed Toucan 3.0.4 directly onto a PC running Windows XP, I've previously used an earlier version off a USB stick without any issues but with this new install I've experienced multiple lock-ups. The Toucan application can be closed but it leaves a process "Toucan.exe" listed in Task Manager that can't be killed off. At the same point, any open Explorer windows stop responding and I'm unable to start any new applications.
Even requesting a full Shutdown fails and the PC has to be hard powered off in order to recover.
I'll see if I can dig out the USB stick I used before and let you know if the problem persists.
is very odd, I have never heard of an issue like this. What sort of thing are you doing with Toucan? I would suggest running a disk check on the drive to make sure it isn't that which is failing as it is the only thing that I can think of which would cause this.
I am seeing a similar issue running Firefox 3.6.13 on XP from a stick and also from c: on another computer.
It has been happening for about 2 weeks. At first, I thought it was related to hibernation or sleep mode as it occurs after the screen saver cuts in. It will return from the screen saver, but shortly locks up. I have disabled hibernation and sleep modes, but the problem still occurs. The only way to recover is to hard powerdown the computer.
I am suspecting a recent MS update. I will fire up a laptop that hasn't been updated recently to see if it has the problem.

EDIT: My wife's computer (also XP) using a portable harddrive is running fine. Hasn't had MS updates applied recently and I don't think I want to chance it on that computer:-)
Changed from stick to USB hard drive and haven't had the problem all day. Probably not a MS Update, more likely a problem developing in the stick, Still not sure about the computer where I'm running from C:.
