The option "Preview Only Changes" is very usefull for large amounts of data ( i use it on 15000 files and 400 folders). When using this over LAN/WLAN you will see first the whole tree in source and destination and little by little the folders will be removed, if they are identical. Only the things to sync will remain in the both trees.
This process takes a long time (nearly 3 hours). The functionality in general works fine, but it would be nice to see the status of syncing (in process or finished).
Problem is : while waiting on the finished preview you see the source and destination tree with a lot of folders. To decide if you want to sync or not while preview you have to click on the folder to see the changes. But when the folders aren't processed by toucan they are empty (normaly you can see this be the + in front of the folder). So you have to click a lot of folders with subfolders yust to see, that toucan hasn't finished previewing yet.
I used following otions:
function - equalise
file checks : file size, modification time
other : retain timestamps, retain attributes, ignore read-only, preview only changes
this is a feature I am not happy with at the moment, roughly what is the size of your data? I am hoping to improve this somewhat in the next release (3.1) and propbably overhaul it in 3.2.
nearly 15000 files, 400 folders and 100 gb.
Just a red/green status if it's working or not would be helpful. Cause waiting is easy.
see if I can do something about this for the next release, probably change to the busy cursor whilst it is working or something.
Hello,
I'm seeing similar behaviour, but not exactly the same. In my case, the right-hand pane of the preview always shows the full directory tree which doesn't disappear unless I manually open each sub-directory. I am working with a small number of directories/files -- just the Toucan distribution itself, for example -- on a local hard disc, so the preview doesn't take any appreciable time to complete.
This behaviour occurs with Toucan 3.0.4 and the 3.1 preview 2. I am using the Mirror operation but otherwise the same options as the OP. This is on Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit.
If there's any chance of fixing this in the 3.1 release that would be really helpful.
Thanks, and let me know if there's any more information I can give you to help diagnose what's going on.
Ian
problem here is that this is the expected behaviour, if you click on the expand all button then it will expand everything and it should all work fine.
Steve - thanks for your reply. I didn't realise that was how it was meant to work (it still seems a bit counter-intuitive to me), so I'm sorry for describing it as a problem.
