See, it is stuck at just over 21k, when usually it needs about 23 to get going.
Anybody know how I can fix this?

Are you using the included profile or your own? If it's your own, it may not work with Firefox Portable (some extensions can cause Firefox not to start when they're path changes). Try just a base install of FFP with the included profile and see if that starts up. If not, try installing it locally (even on your desktop is fine) and see if it starts up there.
