for bumping up the version and everything. Smile

Signature automatically removed for being too awesome.

I'd love to use this as my main browser, but I need the passwords. Do you know if there are any plans for them to change that to be more portable-friendly?

I don't know Chrome's development but I personally use XMarks. It's an extension available for Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari. It's also available on the iPhone and coming to Android.

It syncs your passwords and bookmarks between browsers that have the addon installed. In your case you could use it to store your passwords in the cloud. Offers the same password auto-fill available with Chromes built in password maanager.

If I remember correctly they are going to add passwords to Chrome's builtin Bookmark Sync. They are adding more to it every day, icr what they have in the Stable channel, but in the Dev channel they have Bookmarks, Themes, Extensions, AutoFill, Preferences, and Apps. They have more that they are planning on adding, and, as I said, I think one of them is Saved Passwords.

go to the little customize icon and go down and click on options. go to the personal stuff tab and set up sync with your portable and a non portable with your bookmarks and passwords. you will be able to keep all your info on portable, but to apply any changes you have to set up syncing each time you first use chrome portable after attaching your device to the computer.

Thanks for the recent update on the Dev channel. I upgraded this morning and extension 'One Number' wasn't functioning. I uninstalled and tried re-installing the extension but I got the error message: "Could not create directory for unzipping E:\GoogleChromePortableDev\DATA\PROFILE\Temp\scoped_dir_18999\crx_install"
I tried installing other new extensions and same problem.
Is this the case with anyone else?
Any suggestions?

The Dev channel isn't a supported release. It's made available for convenience and testing. As it is an unstable release that will have bugs in the non-portable app itself, no bug reports are accepted on it other than specific portablization installation issues.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

I have a similar problem with the stable version "Google Chrome Portable 6.0.472.55 Stable". It occurs both with extensions and themes.

This is the error message which is shown after attempting to install the extension ChromedBird; (Or any other)

---
Could not create directory for unzipping:
\Device\LanmanRedirector\fileserver\Users\MyUserName\Webbrowsers\Chrome6\Data\profile\Temp\scoped_dir_3024\CRX_INSTALL
---

The previous version of Grome Portable was version 4. This one was intalled next tot the "Chrome6" folder and never had any problems with installing extensions or themes.

Any ideas anyone?

Are you running that from a UNC path or is the file server mapped to a network drive? If the former, that's an entirely unsupported way of running portable apps. If the latter, I'm not sure what the issue is; please provide us with more information (like OS) in a new thread in the Other Apps Support forum (not in this announcement thread) and we can go into it in more detail. I've never had any issues installing extensions.

I am a Christian and a developer and moderator here.

It is mapped to a network drive, but it seems to resolve it automaticaly to the UNC path.

During install I selected:
\Webbrowsers\Chrome6

The drive letter is mapped to \\fileserver\users\MyUserName.
I have no idea where the '\Device\LanmanRedirector\' part comes from.

I'll copy and post the original comment and additional info in the requested forum.

I have the same problem and have been searching for a solution. I too have a mapped network drive "X:" where P/A was installed and that is where I launch it from (the X drive) but new extensions won't install and Chrome sync won't sync extensions from my other PCs.

Somehow before this started erroring I was able to install 3 extensions but all new extension installs error and the sync errors when trying to load extensions. Sync does seem to keep the tabs and other info up to date, but not extensions.

I've found a workaround for this issue.

Simply rename in CAPITAL letters the folder PROFILE under this path:

from

X:\PortableApps\GoogleChromePortable\Data\profile

to

X:\PortableApps\GoogleChromePortable\Data\PROFILE

For my installation works (chrome 9.0.597.98). Cheers!

I also get the same error. My set up is a 4Gig USB kingston device with a USB TrueCrypt app installed for security unless I lose it some where, because it is loaded with saved passwords etc. So I have an encrypted partition with Portable apps installed and I mount that portable drive and install apps all the time and the new app updates work fine but after I had my portablechrome dev for a while something happened and I could no longer install extensions of any kind. I just recently tried the LASTPASS for USB and it sis not install either, if this could get wrapped in a Portable Apps PAF.exe install package I am betting it would work as I have NOT had issues with that creating app directories on my USB just the Chrome Extensions...

Just updated to the latest version but my extensions does not load using the Option > Personal Stuff > Sync.

Any idea?
