Has really grown, I forgot to check what version I had, I think it was 2.4, at 17.8 MB and now 2.6.11 rev 3 at 57.2MB what a difference.

Take a look at the installer sizes - 2.4.7 was 16MB, 2.6.1 was 17MB, 2.6.11 Rev 3 is 21MB. Installed size is going to be in vaguely similar ratios.

Were the actual folder sizes on my drives. after install.
However, I've installed a lot of plugins (including FX-foundry, a great collection) and GAP. I've also installed the help files.
The other place that accumulates in size is the Data\Settings\.thumbnails folder. These are the thumbnails that the GIMP creates in the File Open dialog. If you have been using GIMP for a long time, you can get quite a few in there (just checking now, it's grown to 74MB). You can periodically delete the contents of the subfolders of .thumbnails (not the folders themselves) as the GIMP will recreate the thumbnails if it needs them. This might also help in keeping the GIMP startup from getting bogged down.

I used that earlier gimp version a little bit, then before I updated I checked the version and size, I forgot the version, I think it was 2.4 maybe 2.2 ? the folder was 17 whatever I said MB, then I updated to this latest version 2.6.11 rev 3 ? it's 21 MB download and installed it says between 57- 108 installed, so after I updated I checked the folder it's at 57.2, 68.4 MB on disk according to the properties, so to me and for me, it tripled in size. I have not run the new version yet.
Of course, one should expect that as features are added and the software becomes more powerful, the size will increase. GIMP is also switching to using the powerful GEGL operations, that are opening up a whole new realm of possibilities in the app. As it is still using the older libraries and the new libraries during this transition, that adds to the overall size. However, given the increasingly inexpensive storage available, and the ever-more powerful processors, 70MB is really not a consequential size.
