Unfortunatly, I don't think Cropper is truly portable. I hate saying that because I've been using this as a screen capture utility at work for months now and am very happy with it. It requires the dotnet 1.1 framework to be installed on the computer its running on however, which means it's not self contained enough to really be portable. I've been running it from my thumb drive for a couple weeks now and already run across a couple computers that don't include the necessary dll's and registry settings. Never mind cross platform issues.
For what it's worth, to sort of make it portable you can install it to your portable device then add a zero length file named cropper.portable to the directory where it is installed. This will cause the app to save configuration information to the application directory and screen captures to a subdirectory on that device. Why that isn't an option from the menu I don't know.
The reasons I like it are threefold. First, it's open source and extensible. There are several good extensions including one to save to gif and a new one that also captures animated gifs. Second, it ties into the normal screen capture options so when it's running, no new keystroke combo's to learn or menu's you have to click through etc. Thirdly it has an overlay mode, so If I'm capturing images that need to be the same size and shape I can do it without having to edit them by setting the overlay to the size I want.
Since it's open source, perhaps some C# coder will be interested enough to really convert it to be portable? It really is a good app, making it completely portable would make an excellent one in my opinion.
