I recently installed LibreOffice in a private net on a UNC PC (FreeNAS). Now it always tells me that it cant start on a UNC path. I tried net use - nothing.
Can anybody help me?

Most software will not run from a UNC path and must be run from a mapped drive letter. Even after you setup the drive letter, you need to ensure you run it from X:\PortableApps\etc rather than \\unc\path\PortableApps\etc.

Rubbish. Heaps of applications run from a UNC path, I have hundreds of batch files that will attest to that.
Some do, some don't. A good chunk of apps store configuration in a certain way and expect only a drive letter to start something in their configuration. Some just don't handle it well internally.
Either way, we don't officially support or recommend UNC paths for portable software for the time being. Some apps should work fine, though. Looks like LibreOffice like Chrome and others just isn't one of them.

I suppose John T Haller should have said "Many software applications will not run from a UNC path ..." because that is definitely 100% true. On the other hand, as far as I know, John T Haller is correct in saying that "Most software will not run from a UNC path ...", however, as you are no doubt aware*, there are many software applications out there, which will run from a UNC path (as far as I know those that will, still amount to substantially less than those which will not). However the number of software applications which will, and will not is not the point of John T Hallers post, the point is that among others, LibreOfficePortable will not run correctly from a UNC path.
I would also like to note here that some software which appears to run from a UNC path will not run correctly from a UNC path, thus it is not recommended to run any software from a UNC path, unless the publisher specifically states that the specific software application is designed to do such.
* This statement is based on your previous post.

More to the point, we don't support UNC paths. The drive letter updating stuff can't work with UNC paths, and partial drive updating is not up to UNC paths at present; I put in a check for UNC paths which stops it from launching, in the PortableApps.com Launcher, as data corruption is quite possible when UNC paths aren't dealt with properly.
