general Probs with Updates and PERFORMANCE!

Hi!

I bought an "bigger" (8GB) USB-Stick, to have all my Prog's with me due to be abroad.
Unfortunately the speed from this device is so slow, that I can make Breakfest for 3 days before something is opening :-((. The Datasheet seems quiet ok, but if I perform any PA...,

Is there any way (other formatting) to come out of this? /OR have I to buy another (which) one??

2. Checking for Updates (in German..!!!) doesn't brought any Results, due to I'm sure there are some!! (Is it really necessary to check each and every Prog 1 by 1..!???)

3. What is an suitable Sync Prog to bring the Datafiles just in time from PC to (PA) Stick.. (and MAY BE vice versa!?)??? ALL there was shown here making more Probs, than solving anything Sad

Slow Device

Unfortunately, many of the cheaper larger devices uses really slow controller chips. So while the 'ratings' are high, they only rate the performance of reading or writing a single large file (like an MP3). Not the performance of multiple slow files. Cheap 8GB+ drives can be exceedingly slow, easily outpaced by a 1GB drive from 2 years ago.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Slow Device

THX,

and what would be an suitable Device? Right now I'm using EMTec 8Gb (the one you can look through). The other two are too small for this issue!
It's realy disgusting!

update

works for me (german too). Do you get the "no more updates"-message?

What do you mean by 3.? Do you want a program to sync your portable data to the host pc?

Update

My idea /impression is: I go to Help ->PA Update and get all the necessary Updates of the Prog's, or??

If I do so, I will be redirected to PA Homepage (https://portableapps.com/update?platform=1.6.1.0) and been told: No Update Required, what is Nonsens in the case that there quiet alot Progs particulary updated.

By 3.: I'm running usually my Progs from PC at Home. If the Time for travelling has been coming I need an quick Possibility to Update the Data onto the Stick with the newer PC Data (and vice versa, if necessary).
I thought, the here offered Progs (Toucan; PureSync) are specially for this kind of Problems; but in fact there making me much more trouble than before. (Mostly because of the folders simply aren't the same.

Take as sample the Data-files from Pdgin /or the Favorites from FireFox! Everytime, I'tried to use those Sync's something "crazy" appears (Data's are written in wrong Folders.. Sad )

no

You've got it mixed up.
The update you mentioned is *only* for the platform/menu. The updater I was talking about is included in the latest beta which you can get here. Its very stable even if its called beta.

Sync:

Syncing application data doesnt work like that as most apps (firefox for example) only update the drive letter and not the path so things like some settings or firefox's bookmarks can break.

I would suggest putting your local apps into something like C:/PortableApps so the only thing that changes if you move an app to your usb drive is the drive letter. That is a situation the launcher is prepared to handle.

If you plan to do what I suggested, some things will break but it should be the last time you have to worry about it. Smile

I hope things are clearer now.

You could try enabling write

You could try enabling write caching in Windows. I do this with my portable drives. If you do this though, make sure to EJECT your drive BEFORE removing it. I've lost data accidentally removing my drive before properly ejecting it.
