Block firefox portable? Can it be done at schools etc?

a firewall or something similar could either block all internet connections or only allow one program and thus disallow Firefox.

Also a common thing in educational institutions (especially tafes and universities) is the browser having to go through a proxy of which you will more than likely be blocked from viewing the username and password.

You could just enforce a group policy to block firefox.exe or FirefoxPortable.exe, which would stop them trying to run it from a network storage as well as thumb drives.

It's also possible to block executable files that are on flash drives. I think my school has been doing this on the new computers. They're doing something, and it won't run.
