I need a PortableApps version of Wine! I feel very dumb because my awesome amazing omnipotent flash drive goes KAPUT when I hook up to a Linux machine

PortableApps is for windows, WINE is an emulator for Linux SO how would you propose to launch a Linux WINE using Windows?

So when he uses a linux machine, he can use "WINE portable" to launch his portable apps.
But that is not what he said, still would that be something we could do? Seems like more of something to ask the makers of WINE to do?

I have discussed this in #winehq on Freenode, one developer's opinion was that it wouldn't work, because Wine is designed to run from a decent filesystem like ext3 or ext4, and FAT, FAT32 or NTFS just don't cut it with certain features which make some apps not work on it. Note that this is mainly the apps, not Wine itself, that he's speaking of. (However, he was saying it just wouldn't work, but I know that I've run portable apps from my USB disk, so I believe it's just a subset of apps that won't work.)
It becomes quite a messy proposition once you deal with lots of variants of Linux. But still, I would like to get to trying to compile it in a manner which would work across at least some different installations of Linux. I doubt that I'll get to it ever, though.

WINE is a Windows API layer for linux. its not very portable as the Ubuntu package of wine uses files from different directories than SUSE or Redhat or Gentoo.
As stated this site deals with windows appliactions. most of the portable apps should work in WINE under linux or CrossOver for the Macintosh computers.
as for the importiant part... if you can set it up so the VM can see your flash drive then no it should not screw with it.
