C:\PortableApps\LibreOfficePortable\App\libreoffice\Basis\program\resource
what are these files ?
do I need them all ?
I suspect these to be Lang files, in this case I only need US-en.
I have already cleaned this folder:
C:\PortableApps\LibreOfficePortable\App\libreoffice\Basis\share\autocorr
and in this folder I found chinese french croatian hungarian japanese and korean
C:\PortableApps\LibreOfficePortable\App\libreoffice\Basis\share\fingerprint
and I ask you, WTF ? my windows in Eng, my App platform is Eng so why would I need this junk ?
and here: C:\PortableApps\InfraRecorderPortable\App\InfraRecorder\Languages
many unnecessary files.
also here: C:\PortableApps\LibreOfficePortable\App\libreoffice\Basis\share\registry\res
instead of getting a good night sleep I'm hunting down this infestation.
also here: C:\PortableApps\LibreOfficePortable\App\libreoffice\Basis\share\registry
no intention to be rude, I apologize if I have offended any of the hard working devs, but I'm frustrated of all these files showing up when defragging my HDD.
so my defragger is busy defragging junk
they're everywhere!!
C:\PortableApps\LibreOfficePortable\App\libreoffice\Basis\share\basic\Depot
also in Toucan
C:\PortableApps\Toucan\App\Toucan\lang
just too many:
C:\PortableApps\LibreOfficePortable\App\libreoffice\share\extensions\wiki-publisher\help
C:\PortableApps\LibreOfficePortable\App\libreoffice\share\extensions\presenter-screen\help
C:\PortableApps\LibreOfficePortable\App\libreoffice\Basis\share\template\wizard\letter
C:\PortableApps\LibreOfficePortable\App\libreoffice\Basis\share\samples
C:\PortableApps\AbiWordPortable\App\AbiWord\templates
C:\PortableApps\AbiWordPortable\App\AbiWord\strings
deleted AbiWord .. no more Lang files.
Ok, I have deleted LibreOffice = no more Unnecessary files, quick and effective.
no more headache
Even though they are parts of other languages, they have not been tested for removal and may break LibO. You're welcome to mess with them, but it's not supported, so you're on your own from then on. Besides, the resource files you mentioned are literally 8K or less in size, so they're inconsequential.

I felt the same way!
I deleted all unnecessary files for my English only install and was able to get it down to 222 Mb. Everything is working fine.
It was driving me crazy chasing these files all over my hard drive, the installer should be a bit smarter and exclude these files or delete them after installation.
there are hundreds of them in many folders and sub-folders.
Sometimes making love is just not enough, you have to step it up!
Why? Because it would take forever to figure out which ones are safe to remove and which ones aren't for each release (it changes) and they don't take up a ton of space relatively speaking. We test out and remove the bigger ones using the experimental remove files feature (which itself may cause issues we haven't seen yet).

but these files make up in number what they lack in size
Assuming one's monolingual and with no need for other languages on the PC, it's quite "interesting" to search for files with "pt-br" (for example) in the title to get an idea.
I'm totally ignorant about programming but I still feel there should be a way to lessen the files in LibreOffice. When I was doing a clean up (even after using portableapps.com "remove file feature") I saw what appeared to be the same image files but named in ~seventeen languages.
If the loal/normal installer includes them, why should we try to be smarter and figure out which files to remove?
I know that in local installs size doesnt matter as much as it does on usb drives but on the other hand, they arent THAT big.

How many times have we told someone with installation problems (mostly OOoPortable or FirefoxPortable) that their hardware just isn't taking the high number of file writes and endless activity very well?

I can't think of any situation ever where 2 dozen 8K files would have made the least bit of difference.

where they ask what additional languages do you want to install? Would we have to ask LibrOffice to let it be done that way? I would think languages are pretty specific in an "office" package, as opposed to the media players since we have near universal icons for play/pause/ff/rw etc.?
Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.
If you feel this is issue is out of your hand, then maybe you can contact The Document Foundation and let them know about it so they can adjust their installer to limit then number of unnecessary files.
Sometimes making love is just not enough, you have to step it up!
Or you can, since you seem so concerned about it.
I personally am not worried about it, The Document Foundation's contact info is right here, their mailing lists are right here, information on filing a bug report is right here, you are perfectly welcome to "contact The Document Foundation and let them know about it so they can adjust their installer to limit then number of unnecessary files", if you feel it is something that should be addressed.

As LibreOffice Portable uses a different installer, that would not help.
To be multilingual and use automatic language switching is a feature of Portable Apps that is more and more implemented as long as the base apps support that. It is supposed to become a standard as much as possible.
You are free to delete unwanted languages manually, but I long ago stopped that, because it simply has no considerable impact on performance (and drivespace occupation mostly is negligible).
Some apps like GIMP, where the localizations take up considerable ammount of space, offer an option to just install english locales, but that more and more becomes an exception. As LibreOffice switched to bundling all locales in one installer, the portable package is multilingual, too.
There is some workaround option to exclude some unwanted files, but that makes installation on slow drives even last longer. It still is a space hog.
You could still manually delete those files, but I consider it completely worthless, as long as drivespace is not sparse (and it seldomly is nowadays).
as you started the topic on the extra files?
Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.
Just think about the subject. I speak spanish, read and sometimes write in english. Therefore, at least I require two set of languages.
What I have done in the past with no consequences for the programs, are erasing the language files for the interface and messages. But, I don't touch the files that has something to do with local settings, like time or region.
what a bunch of babies
i havent seen so much crying in my life
someone needs to stand up for the developers/testers at portableapps
if you want to delete shit from your apps, then do so and quit whining about it
damn
It is not just a matter of storage space; copy operations involving this plethora of unnecessary files adds tremendously to the transfer time.
