Removing PortableApps format from portable prgms

Hi all,

I have MANY PortableApps programs that I run from my HDD and I was wondering if there is a set of certain folders and/or files that form the basis of the PortableApps format that I can delete since I am running from my hard drive and without a menu system?
Am trying to save as much space as possible on my disc!

Thanks a bunch!

Sincerly,

Cindy

Yes

You can delete Other and App\DefaultData (be sure to run the program at least once before doing it).
I think you can also remove the files from App\AppInfo (except by AppInfo.ini and Launcher\AppNamePortable.ini).

Won't Save Much

In relation to apps and the size of your drive, this will really save you nothing. Source is generally at most a few dozen KB. And DefaultData should be preserved in the off chance you need to reset an app. Plus, even if you don't normally use a menu, it'll be nice to have the PA.c Platform to run once in a while to update all your apps.

PA.c Platform

Mr. Haller,

By PA.c Platform, do you mean the Portable Apps MENU?

How do I get, or create the menu for all of the Portable Apps (plus some Pgms from other places, NOT in PAF format but also portable), that I have in separate folders on my HDD?? The folders are subordinate to just one main folder that I named
"F:\Misc Pgms No Install needed" ??

Thank you very much!

Sincerely,
Cin

Location

As long as they're in a directory 'next to' the PortableApps.com directory, it'll work.

Language files

If you installed language files, deleting the unwanted ones will probably save you the most. Unfortunately you have to find them separately for each app.

Why deportablize portable apps?

Almost every app here, with the exception of a very few homegrown ones, are adapted from freely available apps on the internet.
If you don't want to use the portable versions, just go download the non-portable versions. It's a lot less headache.

I run from my hdd as well ...

without the menu installed. Doesn't seem to bother the apps at all. If I was going to update them with higher versions, I'm here often enough to check.
