Custome Settings & Addons Missing or Resetting between Computers.

Custome Settings & Addons Missing or Resetting between Computers.

Windows x64, Firefox 4.0.1
Over the weekend I added & deleted a few addons, customized my toolbars.
Closed normally, all is well.
Come to work, fire up FFP and all my changes are not there. All the 'old' addons I deleted are back, & none of the new addons or toolbar changes are there.
Kind of defeats the purpose of a portable app if it's not saving properly.

More details.
Firefox is not installed on either PC
I am the Admin of both PCs
Path on PC 1 is D:\FirefoxPortable
Path on PC 2 is W:\Portables\FirefoxPortable
I sync back and forth, source always overwriting destination (syncback)
NEVER had this issue with FFP3.x.x

Teamviewed back into PC 1, ran FFP, everything is the way I want it, closed FFP, zipped folder, transferred to PC 2, deleted old FFP, unzipped, FFP still shows different toolbar configuration & different addons.

Any suggestions?

path

Firefox Portable is built to be moved from one PC to another on a usb (or similar) drive. That means that only the driveletter should change and not the whole path. This is most likely causing your problem.

Roger that, I'll move my paths around so only the drive letter is dynamic. Let you know. Thanks in advanced if this works Smile

Update

OK on further inspection, I checked the Addons one by one. It seems that about 6 of them said they were not compatible with FF 4.0.1, EVEN though they were running fine & installed on my PC at home running the same FFP v4.0.1 files. I clicked on update addons, restarted now everything is back to normal, as it is at home.

So why are the addons not detecting FF 4.0.1 as compatible when they installed just fine?

Simeon, you are correct. I

Simeon, you are correct.
I changed my path on PC 2 to match pathing of PC 1, ran FFP & the addons again complained they are not compatible. Did an update, restarted, now everything is back to normal.

I'll have to remember that FFP is Path sensitive, but not drive sensitive.

Thank you, this was driving me crazy for about 2 weeks, till I finally posted here.

Something is still going on

Something is still going on here.
To avoid any issues I just recopied my home (PC1) copy to my USB drive, came to work (PC2) loaded up FFP & the same issue is there. A few addons do not load unless I update them, then restart FFP on PC2. I then closed FFP, restarted work PC2 then loaded FFP again, now the settings saved.
So there is something else these addons require that is more then just FFP Path based. I'm guessing when I get home the same addons will not load until I update them & restart FFP, for home PC1.
I don't remember this happening before in FFP 3.6.13, but it did start to happen in FFP v3.6.16, and now FFP v.4.0.1. Very annoying. (if only opera had a BarTab addon...)
Addons give me trouble are:
Custom Tab Width v1.0.1
Download Manager Tweak v0.9.5
New Tab Toolbar Button v1.1
Smoothwheel v0.45

My question would be, what is going on here?

GAHH

GAHH, "Bookmark this tab" is gone from my tab context menu too!

Aparently it was removed!

This is crazy, don't remove a feature because you don't think it's used.
Spend time to write the code, it's there for ages, then oh lets remove it.

going to switch to Opera, which is officially portable, and has tones of addons, themes, and can apply them on the fly, no restart needed.

Good run FF.

Click Bookmark

There's not much call to bookmark a tab you're not using. And it's dead easy to bookmark the current tab without needing to use a context menu. Removing it speeds up access to all the other options in the tab context menu as it's one less thing for your brain to process. That's the logic behind it. Options for the sake of options actually makes your brain work harder to do things.
