Calibre EBook Management for PortableApps

Hi,

Since there has been no update since the Oct 21, 2010 submission of Calibre 0.7.28 for Portable Apps, I have created and will be maintaining newer versions. I have posted the latest version, wrapped for PortableApps at http://sourceforge.net/projects/calibreportable, and will continue to update it regularly.
Please consider this a request for testing and submission for full PortableApp status as soon as reasonable. Note that Calibre itself is in constant development, but is also considered by the users as a fully released application.
Please address any questions or issues with the PortableApps implementation of Calibre here, or at http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=133957 .
Thank you for your time and consideration,

MildBill

This is already being actively developed

I don't think you searched this site before going to the trouble of doing this. If you had, you would have found prapper's post, the first result in a search for "Calibre", which already has the 0.8.2 version of Calibre posted.

Also, please ask before taking over an app.

My apologies.

Actually, I did search, but apparently not well enough.
And, I also obtained the specific permission of the Calibre developer for portablizing it.
However, if prapper is continuing to work on the PortableApps implementation of Calibre, I will desist, and remove the project from Sourceforge, etc.

Consider it a done deal,

MildBill

It's good to know that PA.c

It's good to know that PA.c has so many active developers that it is important to discourage any new ones.

you are missing the point

Why have 2 developments of the same program? That is the point! It is not to discourage new developers! Using your logic lets have 200 versions of Rednotebook out there?

Exactly

Thanks vf2nsr.

My comment was not at all meant to discourage new developers, simply to point out that there is already active development going on on calibre. I hope the original poster still desires to portablize programs here.

help to start learning programming.

I have completed at Diploma of IT in the past which introduced me to programming, tried and failed to learn java at uni, and want to try to learn programming again.

I need advice on what programming language to learn fast, nothing too hard, know some batch file commands and dos commands, with a view on eventually working on portable apps in the portable apps open source scene.

Any advice or links to ebooks or tutorials i can use to learn, and the software if any needed to start, would be appreciated.
