Not open source.

You need to help out the developers (not me).

Please check if the program your are proposing for portable use is open source and free, before requesting it. If you do not, you put the burden of checking such things on the developers before they break any national or international copyright laws, by modifying applications.

X-Fire Portable Is Here! (Freeware not plus)

I have changed some code in the ini file and made xfire as portable as any other app here! It works and all updates are automaticly placed on the drive you place it on.
Heres the link.

Redistribute?

I don't think you can legally modify and redistribute x-fire if it is not open source with a GPL or GNU license.

Illegal Modifications Forbidden

Please note that unless you have permission from the author, you can not modify closed source / proprietary software. It's illegal to do so. Generally, you can only use redistribute the actual installer that they distribute unmodified. And you can't use their name or trademarks without permission either.

Repackage

I understand what you are saying but I must say that the .exe files are the same the only change is the .ini file that tells it where to save updates and skins. I placed it in a zip folder. The software is still free and an update at download.com will soon say that I did not make the software, just made it portable. I could not contact xfire, my hopes were to have it downloadable on xfire.com but like I said I could not get a hold of them. Also as I said before I did not remove copyrights nor did I chage the software itself, it's not the plus version it the freeware copy. I am not making more nor' do I plan on it.
I am still attempting to get ahold of Xfire

It's still illegal

XFire has only given anyone permission to distribute their installer (if they've even given others that much... have they?) If you distribute anything else, such as the files that are then installed, it's not legal without permission.

With commercial software, you only have a license to do very specific things with it. Unless the ability to do something (such as redistribute or repackage) is spelled out in the license... or given to you by the publisher... you can NOT do it. A publisher could even distribute a free application and not allow others to redistribute it, even unaltered, if they so choose. In fact, you don't even have the right to redistribute unaltered it unless they say you can in the license.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

RE:

I understand, I have resently sent an email to xfire asking them and sending them a link to the files, I have told them I will remove it if they want me to, I have not heard from them but am still trying, Also I will be a bit more carful when it comes to working with free apps, and open source. Thank You for bringing this to my attention and may I also say it has been a privilge to talk to you, I've wanted to since I found your site. I love the portable apps and was just trying to join in. Also just so you know im only 15, And I should have been a bit more carful, once again thanx.

I too would like xfire portable...it says in the program that all you do is find the .exe, but that doesn't seem to work...

Ok, I have a solution. I

Ok, I have a solution. I installed Gfire (https://sourceforge.net/projects/gfire/) with Gaim Portable. Both released under GNU General Public License (GPL)

Can be downloaded here:

http://files.filefront.com/Gaim_Portable_with_Gfirezip/;6916094;/fileinf...

I know Gaim is the latest release. But its the latest the plug-in will work with.

The Multilingual Ver. can be found at:

http://files.filefront.com/Gaim_Portable_20b31_multilin_gual_including_G...

It works out great for me.
