Hi all--
I have always used a Kingston or SanDisk for Live Boot and Portable App scenarios, but being in the field so often I'd like to get one of the wee little keys. Do y'all have any experience with these in Portable App and Live Boot scenarios?
The prominent models are the LeCie Moskeyto (LeCie has a bad rap for boot scenarios, dunno about paf); the Buffalo RUF2-PS (Buffalo has a nice reputation and I'd like to get one, but so far no chatter about the issue--not sure how closely the hardware compares with reputable Firestixx); and the Kingston fun/rubber thing (Kingston DataTravelers are great, but these things look like they are not the best choice if you are on the go and leave the device in the machine).
Any feedback is much appreciated.
those sticks are ok, but they are rather slow , so for use with portable apps or bootable operating systems not the very best choice.
Speed of the sticks is often given not only by the speed of the flash chips, but more by the build in controller. In general the faster a processor runs, the more heat it will also dissipate, so due to lack of cooling in such device, only slower controllers are employed in the nano and similar sticks sticks.
I have number of such devices, for portable apps it still works, for bootable os it is just very theoretical as extremely slow in operation then.
I use also rather big size usb sticks for regular work, have often short usb extension cable with me, so the device does not stick so far out of the notebook.
