Unable to instal Platform Beta 5

Having finally decided to migrate from my aging U3 drive to a much faster memory stick I decided to give the PortableApps.com launcher a try. The 1.6.1 version installed with no problems and in no time I had the eighteen apps I can't live without up and running (even moving the locally stored copies all my emails from the old version of Thunderbird went without a hitch).

Then I decided to see how the V2.0 Beta 5 Launcher looked. I have tried several times to install it but hit the same error message every time. I get as far as selecting the language (English) but as soon as I click okay I see...

"PortableApps.com_Platform_Setup_2.0_Beta_5.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

I have tried downloading it again in case it was corrupted but it downloads a binary identical copy every time. I ensured everything that had been running from the USB stick (including the old launcher) was closed and even tried safely removing and reinserting the stick.

Strangely enough, after poking around the PortableApps.com website for long enough I found a copy of the V2.0 Beta 4 launcher and that installed first time and is running fine so I don't think its anything I'm doing wrong.

I am using a fully patched version of Windows XP Pro SP3 with full admin rights.

Okay, this is strange. I took

Okay, this is strange.

I took the PortableApps.com_Platform_Setup_2.0_Beta_5.exe installatio file home and it installed fine from my home PC - which is also a fully patched version of Windows XP Pro SP3 with full admin rights.

The only difference I can think of is that at work I'm running Symantec Endpoint (although the logs don't show it objecting to anything) and at home I'm running Trend Titanium Internet Security.

that might be it

Maybe the firewall/security app was blocking it...Maybe it is blocking exes which are not from your PC or something.

I am glad it is working now for you! Smile
