Validation Fails

PortableApps.com Format validation failed with 1 error and 2 warnings.

Errors

  • File App\readme.txt is missing

Warnings

  • File App\AppInfo\Launcher\splash.jpg is missing
  • appinfo.ini: [Details]:Description should be shorter than 323 characters (aim for no more than 150).

And now to actually try it out Smile

How did you do that?

Did you manually go through and check for those issues, or was that an automatically generated report? I'm asking because it looks like it was automatically generated by something, and I'd really like a copy of the tool if it was.

ironhead is planning to release another eD development release shortly, so I'll post fixes for the issues you mentioned when I release my matching dev test.

You and me both

I'm glad Chris was able to push it out, and look forward to what it can do. It looks very promising.

quit /silent

What is the correct silent quit commandline parameters? I am currently running the following via OliverK's AutoClose (using correct AutoClose syntax):

X:\PortableApps\EmergeDesktopPortable\EmergeDesktopPortable.exe quit /silent

And receive the following error message when running it:

Another instance of Emerge Desktop is already running. Please close other instances of Emerge Desktop before launching Emerge Desktop Portable.

This is a PA.c Launcher message. I suspect the commandline parameters aren't being passed on properly for some reason.

[EDIT] I looked into this, and the correct behaviour can be achieved if you add the following to your launcher.ini, although it is an incorrect usage of the function, it works. Note that the only commandline paramter that emergeCore accepts that is missed by doing this is /shellchanger, although in a portable setup like this, switching back and forth is likely not desired.

ProgramExecutableWhenParameters=Emerge Desktop\Win32\emerge.exe
ProgramExecutableWhenParameters64=Emerge Desktop\Win64\emerge.exe

Maybe if the /quit parameter was accepted externally by emergeCore this would be unneccessary??

Your command-line syntax is

Your command-line syntax is correct (/quit /silent works too, but quit /silent should be fine); as you said, my launcher is where the issue is. I think turning off SingleAppInstance in the launcher should fix this pretty cleanly, so I'll run a couple of tests and see if that works.

Thanks for taking the time to look this over!

EDIT: turning off SingleAppInstance helped, but didn't totally fix the issue. After some testing in the eD source, I sent ironhead a patch to make emergeCore properly handle command-line parameters. The patch for eD should make it into the upcoming dev release, and the fixed launcher will make it into the corresponding dev test here; between the two fixes, eD Portable should work properly with AutoClose.

EDIT 2: ironhead and I talked things over and decided to leave out the patch for eD, since emerge.exe already has the functionality in question. I'm just adding ProgramExecutableWhenParameters and ProgramExecutableWhenParameters64 entries to the launcher, as you suggested.

Base app version

I just noticed the base app is at version 6.0.0.961. Hope you can update when you have time. Of course, as 6.X is a development version, it's not a huge deal.

relative paths

It seems the newer versions of EmergeDesktop do support relative paths when used on USB stick, can you update the old version to the newest EmergeDesktop-6.1.exe (3.2 MB), thanks anyway
