MediaInfo

Hey folks!

Would be cool to have a portable version of MediaInfo.
Any plans to make it portable?

More info here: http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/

It says:
"It is free software (free of charge and free
access to source code: GPL or LGPL licence)"

Regards,
Thasmo

I tried once

it's too complicated to be made portable, in terms of shell integration and such.

last i checked there was a portable

in the beta testing. i used it and should have a copy in my repository of old pApps. VLC has similar functions now too if you know where to look. (try Codecs)

outdated

I think you mean this: https://portableapps.com/node/12469

And that version is really outdated, and the new version is a whole lot more complicated.

outdated?

how can a program that just gives you stats and information on media files become outdated?

which does...

what does it do...

As i stated above VLC have some of the basic features than MediaInfo did/does.

right click

It associates itself with every filetype existing on your computer. So when you right click on a file in Explorer, in the context menu "MediaInfo" is one of the options. It's impossible to get rid of it, too, or at least as far as I know.

Great if you install it, nightmares if you want it portable. Useful if you want to mess with somebody computer.

ahhh.

so there is no other difference other than that with the old portable edition and the newer edition other than perma file association. for a moment there you had me thinking there was some immediate secutiry fix or the addition of new codecs to the database.

new gui as well

If I recall correctly, they also made some changes to their interface, but don't quote me on that.

Huh?

I don't seem to have that problem and I have used the program (extracted, not installed) for probably two years.

upgrade

and you'll see. I don't know when the latest version came out, but I'm sure it's newer than two years.

FOR the last two years

Not two years ago.

Version 0.7.42, upgraded in March 2011.

Most current version is 0.7.44

I'll fire that version up if it makes you happy.

You know what I'm thinkin?

I think the problem is I downloaded the installer version, not the .7z (I think I missed that one). I'm thinkin maybe the installer version associates itself automatically when it detects a lack thereof. But the extractable version's different, and thus I was wrong. (I install into sandboxie, look for files, then run it directly, with regshots and stuff for registry entries).

Good

Maybe that will make it easier to portabilize it?

Scratch that

I'm stupid.

All I had to do was run MediaInfo, and right there was a setting to tick if I wanted the context menu option. And I can manipulate it, to in the settings.

I haven't yet developed, as you noticed above, complete english literacy yet (maybe because I learned Spanish first)

This hear will make portablizing it a peace cake. As long as one can read :P. I'll pass on it, though. I'll let someone else give it a shot (or that one person that started a long time ago can update his version).

Oh, and the MD5s match.

OK, I'll give it a try then,

OK, I'll give it a try then, as Travis Carrico stated in his thread that he didnt want to further maintain it (he seems not to be active anymore).
I used it locally for some time now and find it quite useful ("modern" media players in modern TVs can be divas if it comes to codec settings acceptance...).

i wuv you long time

if you can make the updated version portable by PAF standards i will be very greatful. i have so much anime as SergentSiler and Benawesome could attest to that would allow me to take advantage of this. i hope at some point there can be a completed official app. count me in as a tester Biggrin
