I'm looking for the folder that Firefox(4) is storing the cached data, so i can try out some cache viewers/managers I've been meaning to. Could i get some help on that please?

Cache is disabled.

I found it made it run faster on the school computers. Firefox Portable runs incredibly slowly on them (fine on other machines). This fix stopped when I restarted the app.

Seriously? So all the data goes directly on RAM? I have an old laptop with only 2GB and i'm a hayve tab user and i tun out of memory all the time... Do i need to enable cache as well?
I was searching for the cache folder and couldnt find it anywhere. So you say it is initially disabled...
Firefox uses the same amount of RAM whether you have disk cache enabled or not. Disk cache is primarily designed to speed up websites the next time you open the browser (since the images are cached from last time).

So where are the youtube videos and other dynamic content stored?
they are not stored in a normal cache the same way as simple picts are.
They are played as they stream in and lost when the particular part of the video has finished to play.
It is not the aim of the distributors of such videos to store it on everybodys hard drive, so next time you want see it you could do without visiting the site. The aim is each one user is going to the website and watches it from there.
To store videos like youtube, you need some special software to do so.
Something like youtube downloader or similar.
Cache is disabled on portable versions to make the browser faster, as cache on flash media like an usb stick would be a pain, storing each bit of some picts to such relatively slow medium would make browsing most current websites very slow.

I have means of storing youtube and other videos, my intent isnt that. I just need to know how these things stay on memory so i can unload them individually and save on memory. As i said, i open multiple tabs and many of them could be sites like youtube where video is being played and is then stored somewhere in memory.
Since i leave the tab open, and i can return whenever i want to the tab and play the video without reloading the page, then that should mean that its somewhere kept in the memory. What i want is to unload the video at will, without closing the tab so that i know the tab is there but the video content isnt occupyig any of my memory.
I dont think i can explain this any better, but if additional detail is required please ask me sepcifically. But based from what i just said does anyone know where in memory are these stored?

I understand what you're saying but i don't think it is necessarily true. I can see how YouTube buffers the video, and since the seek-bar kinda greys out for as long as the video is processed, but as soon as it gets done with the file, i don't see it re-buffering. It acts as though it is saved somewhere, and you can play like you would an offline file. You can seek at any which point and it never buffers again...
Youtube videos are bufferd in your local %temp% folder as long as you stay on the actual page and get deleted once you switch to the next clip or leave the site. It's done automatically. You can find video cache files with nir sofer's VideoCacheView (found on www.nirsoft.net).
The solution for your problem in the specific case of youtube would be to close the tab after watching.

It's available as Dev Test here. Don't be irritated by the version numbers, they download the latest version at aetup.
Thank You this was the answer i was looking for. But what i need is to retain the tab open but delete video from temp folder.
BTW i have already tried the cache viewer but i can get anything done since there's no cache. Or are you suggesting i should use the temp folder as the cache folder?
