It happens with regular Firefox 2.0, too. It's not specific to the portable version.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Thanks for your reply John. Yeah, it's a bug in Firefox v2 not Firefox Portable.
I found this in Bugzilla #360534. Maybe this happens with the phishing filter enable. I'll try to disable this new funtion. If it's no go, I'll back to v1.5.x
Heh!
Here's a good read for you...

One of the lead devs of the 'Poison Ivy' trojan even left a post here, telling how they did it!

@VinDSL: Nothing with trojan or virus here. I've disable the internet connection, installed just the fresh Windows XP then installed Firefox2 with no extension or theme. If there is any virus or trojan, Firefox2 is virus itself
FIXED!
I disabled the fishing filter and everything is OK now.
When the fishing filter is enabled (default), it always tries to download the list file of fishing to update. When you exit Firefox, this funtion made the trouble. Hope it will be fixed in Firefox 2.0.0.1 soon.
It's Phishing, not fishing.

Yeah... phishing, not fishing. Sorry about the mistake !
I also have this problem, which means that I cannot safely remove the USB drive for a couple of minutes after closing firefox. I don't have the phishing filter enabled, so I don't know what it is.
explorer.exe and use the run box to start it again, then try to safely remove your drive. Explorer is a common culprit of drive locking. If that doesn't work, and all of your drive's programs are closed, and none of your drive's files are in use (as far you know, anyway), then (if you can), log out and log back in. Logging off will close all processes except those required by the system to function, so whatever was locking your drive will have been closed when you log back in.

See my link above -- you've got the 'PoisonIvy' trojan!
There is NO WAY you can run two instances of Fx at the same time -- close one, and have the other one still running!

Not true. You just can't use the same profile.
Vintage!
I would concur with that statement!
Perhaps 'we' are talking apples and apples here...
A hallmark of the 'PoisonIvy' trojan is that "firefox.exe" is always running in the background, unless you kill it with Task Manager, Process Explorer, or whatever.
Many victims are unaware of this. They shut down the Fx process they started, only to discover "firefox.exe" is still running in the background, and wrongly assume it's a bug in Fx. If they would look before closing Fx, they would probably see two instances of "firefox.exe" running.

Hello Group;
I have had this same problem but only after the first time I run Firefox 2. Every time I extract it and run it for the very first time. I have not had this happen with the non portable version from Mozilla.
I am running Windows 2000 Pro with service pack 4. When it happens it is not listed in the task manager. It is still running until I reboot my PC. From them on I have not had this problem.
Is there another place to look and see if it can be shut down. Because at least in my case it is not listed in the task manager at all. I have had to unplug my USB unsafely a number of times.
I all so do not run any of the portable apps together with any thing. I start them from my desktop useing a menue system on my USB. Currently I am using "Autostart" but have been trying John's new menue out. I usually do not run multiple apps of any kind together.
