Hi all,
I am using Firefox Portable 5 and for the past couple of days external links are opening in a new window, rather than a new tab.
As far as I know I haven't changed anything.
The settings in Tools, Options, Tabs specify external link to open in new tab, as does the Tab Mix Plus extension.
I have tried Firefox in Safe Mode with all extensions disabled and also a clean profile that I have using the 2nd Profile app.
With the extensions disabled on my main profile the problem still occurs.
I have also reset all Tab Mix Plus settings to defaults.
However, the clean profile on the 2nd Profile app the problem does not occur.
I have also upgrade FF from 5.0 to 5.0.1.
Any ideas?
Many thanks.
Enter in the address bar the following expression : about:config
Now enter in the filter line the following expression: browser.link.open_newwindow
Now you must see the following values:
If these settings do not exist, then change it as described above.
Many thanks for your reply.
These are the settings that I have at the moment:-
browser.link.open_newwindow;3
browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction;0
I have tried to change browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction to 2 but the setting appears to be read-only. I can input the change but the change is not saved.
Thanks again.
That's odd. Please disable the Tab Mix Plus extension. Can you now change and save browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction to value 2?
Thanks again for your help. I disabled Tab Mix Plus and I was then able to change browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction to 2.
However, I'm afraid this didn't resolve the problem, however, I have now noticed that the external links are opening using the Firefox installation on the laptop's hard drive, rather than the portable firefox which they did do until very recently?
Any ideas?
Many thanks.
Because the situation is very difficult, I would first recommend to uninstall Firefox Portable. After a fresh installation of Firefox Portable with all extensions everything should work properly again. Presumably is a defect in the profile of your old Firefox Portable installation, which to eliminate is complicated.
If the problem occurs again, probably the cause is one of the installed extensions. In this case, I would install Firefox Portable without extensions. Then I would gradually install the individual extensions until you reach the extension, which caused problems. You should uninstall again this last extension.
