Hi,
I´m using an U3 SmartDisk USB-Stick ... nice thing and a few good tools which are not available at portableapps.com.
Nevertheless PortableApps.com seems much better to me. Firefox and Thunderbird Updates are available much faster.
It would be absoluteley great if it would be possible to use U3 Programs with the portable Apps Menu ... if that works I would delete the U3 Launcher from my Stick an use only PortableApps.com ... unfortunatley it does not work vice versa.
Greetings,
BlackVoltage
There is 1 program that is portable only for U3, that I would use. SignupShield.
Let's see. You are not copying or modifying the U3 launchpad only making a program that would be capable of using the programs it is meant for. Not sure if that would violate licenses or anything.

Well one Tool I like is "Essential Pim" (you can import very easy all of your contacts, schedules, tasks and notes from outlook and use it everywhere) . Another one is a nice Sync Tool you have to pay for (I got it with the stick) and so on. In Addition there´s irfanview with all Plugins, Digital File Shredder, Challenger and so on.
If it would not be possible to make U3-Tools run with PortableApps-Launcher maybe a table with all available U3 Tools on the one side and compareable PortableApps Tools on the other side would be a first step (like that similar tables "linux programs Windows programs"

PS: By the way ... does anyone know if it is possible to install U3-Launcher again after deleting it?

yes you can re-install U3-i'm just not sure where you would go to find a link...
Essential Pim is available as a portable app already. Just download the portable version from http://www.essentialpim.com/index.php?r=download and extract to \PortableApps. This will allow the PortableApps Menu to install a link.
Infraview can also be installed as a basic portable app. Several websites offer it, or you can just install it to a PC and copy the directory to \PortableApps.
Unfortunately I don't know of any solutions for Digital File Shredder, Challenger or Sync Tool, but chances are there are alternatives that others may know of.
Hope this helps.
Great, thank you for the link. Unfortunately it seems the free Version is not able to synchronise with Outlook. With the U3 Version I made various synchronisations and I had not to pay for it?! Nevertheless I will try it - thanks!
Also thanks for the fileShredder Utility ... will also try

EDIT: OK, I got it ... its the same as the free U3 Version ... it is possible to import from Outlook but it doesn´t synchronise (if you import twice ... you have every item twice aftwerwards) not good but you can make a new DB everytime you import

Not open source, but it is free and portable with CIA/NSA quality file shredding.

CyberShredder is a nice tool but not especially what I am looking for. CyberShreder only deletes special Files - I mean one File or Folder you select. There are Tools which are able to do that an in addition are able to delete all "unused space" thats what I am looking for. Any Idea?

PS: Another Tool I still haven´t found is something like "Cruzer Sync" ... meanwhile I got everything else I had for U3 and much more

I truly think there is a way. Though This is just a theory I might add. Since the u3 application folder has all the programs information with the .u3p file there are 2 other folders with the .u3p file. I used portable Firefox for u3 designed by the one and only John Haller and if there is a way to point to those folders you might be able to use the portable apps menu as a u3 launchpad alternative. I just don't know how the installation of u3 programs theory yet(working on that one ;)) once the source for the portable apps menu comes out I might play around and see if that would work

As are as I knew, a u3p file was just a zip file, if you wanted to do some work, you could just unpack the file containing the app you want to use and then work out how to use it in the unpacked form. (If I'm wrong and it's not a zip file, its a file that 7zip natively opens).
u3 drives just unpacks anyway once you get them installed as I understand. and so the launcher just goes to the extracted app folder and launches that executable thus making my theory possible if I can get my hands on the portable app menu code
