PA2.2.1: Windows7TaskbarIcon=false doesn't work

PA 2.2.1: I'm trying to hide the task bar icon as desribed in the doco. It doesn't seem to work.

In this case, I am running PA from the HDD not a USB message stick. (C:\PortableApps) on Windows 7 Pro 64bit.

I have a shortcut to C:\PortableApps\start.exe 'pinned' to the task bar. When I run it, I end up with 2 PA Icons in the task bar (the pinned shortcut and the running program icon) and another in the tray.

Other than that, I can't find fault with the new platform. Looks great!

I'm looking forward to the promised ability to point to the 'non-portable' documents folder. The perfect solution here would be able to 'sync' the portable and non-portable document folders!

Known Bug / Can't Pin

The issue with the task bar is a known bug ("Task bar icon does not properly show/hide on all OSes as intended").

Pinning portable apps is unsupported due to them containing multiple EXEs (one launcher and one actual app). Windows 7 doesn't understand this setup and doesn't properly support it with the task bar and pinning. You could create a shortcut to the PortableAppsMenu.exe directly and that should pin. But be warned that this is not recommended or supported and could cause issues with upgrades in future releases.

Glad you like the platform, we'll be adding even more as time goes on.

Sorry, missed it as a known bug.

I thought I looked through the list of known bugs and didn't see it. I'll have another look. Sorry for the dup report.

It is the shortcut that I have pinned. Seems to work perfectly, for me.

No Worries

Duplicate bug reports happen all the time. Better to get 2 than 0 Smile

FYI, it's 2.0PR2.1

Just as a point of clarity, the version number should be referred to a 2.0PR2.1 or 2.0 Pre-Release 2.1; it's not actually 2.2.1.
I know it seems like a little thing, but it will really help prevent confusion when referencing this particular version.
Thanks!

I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.

No worries. Consider my hand

No worries. Consider my hand properly slapped. Sad

I found this bug in the known issues list. I'm just blind in one eye and can't see out of the other, I guess.

I suppose I should have raised it in the Beta Test forum as well.

I'm batting 1.000 today.

Dropping

As mentioned elsewhere, this setting is being dropped as there is no need for it anymore. LibreOffice Portable includes both the main LibreOffice launcher icon as well as the individual ones, just like on Windows, and end users can easily hide any they don't want with a simple right-click. That and the fact that LibreOffice is the only app that would make use of it anyway now that OpenOffice.org for any portable devices is dead (at least for now, we're negotiating for trademark allowances).
