Please Help!

I've really done it now. My Firefox restore session hasn't been working, and since no-one replied to my earlier post, I thought I'd just reinstall it.

But... now I seem to have lost all my settings, addons, extensive bookmarks, but most importantly, my Scrapbook pages which included lots of business sales receipts for online orders which I was getting ready to print for my tax records.

Is there anyway to recover this? I know the obvious answer is to go to my backup, but I foolishly don't have a recent backup. Would Firefox have moved the old files somewhere else?

Please help me...

Are you sure you're not

Are you sure you're not running a test version of Firefox Portable? That seems to be my only guess at the moment.

I'm running 5.0.1

I'm running 5.0.1

And since I'd done a Firefox update about a month back, I'm pretty sure the deleted one was the same.

Running portably?

Are you sure you're running it portably? You should be running it from the Platform or running FirefoxPortable.exe. If you're running firefox.exe or have registered it as a default browser or similar it'll get messed up.

Yes, Portable version

I opened it directly from the Portable menu. When I go to it's install folder and hover over the .exe file, it says it's the portable version 1.6.11.0, but "About Firefox" says 5.0.1

All addons, bookmarks, scrapbook, skins, etc are gone...

Remember, this wasn't a standard upgrade. I thought I could uninstall it, and reinstall it again to fix the problem I was having. Just didn't think about the implications of that.

So, when uninstalling, the files don't get moved to Recycle? I looked there for them. Seems they must have just been wiped, then the new install overwrote it all.

Is there anything I can do?

I get the point on recycle bin

I was just hoping.... Does make me wonder though if PortableApps couldn't be made to have it's own recycle bin, since when I delete a file from my Documents folder, it does delete to the host computer's Recycle bin.

I've not yet used special recovery software. Would it allow me to just restore the exact files I need without overwriting all my files with previous files? If so, can you recommend a good product for a non-techie to use?

Thanks

Gone

Uninstalling uninstalls it all. It deletes the whole package, which includes the data.

If you want to upgrade, run the installer. It will upgrade it all correctly.

Upgrading didn't fix the problem

Makes sense -- I just didn't think first. I'd had this problem for a while, but since my most recent Firefox upgrade hadn't fixed it, and I hadn't gotten a reply in the forums, so I thought I'd just reinstall.

I did find a backup that's about a month old. If I can't restore using special software, I guess I'll just try to copy the files I need from the old backup. Better than nothing. Is there anything special I need to know to do this properly? Where can I find info on the exact files I'll need to replicate my settings, bookmarks, scrapbook, etc?

Thanks again.
